Land ain't cheap, especially around the cities. Farmers still want an arm and half a leg for a few acres. Gotta win the lottery first

well there's a few rumors of a couple of people buying up land just outside of calgary for a few years now, waiting for race city to be shut down so they can open up a new track but thats just a rumor. it costs millions to get one up and running and to properly maintain a full race course property maintenance is in the hundred thousands. and companies have already said they will donate money to keep race city open, the city wants the land back for what ever reason they aren't telling us because we all know that the reasons they give are complete bullshit and have been called out on it a few times.

iirc the sports car club, and the Porsche (or maybe Ferrari??) club rent it out at least once a year...

to oversimplify the cusp of the problem;

ZONING

There are several pieces of property around Calgary that could be acquired for a race facility, but none of the jurisdictions will zone for a Race track;
iirc the best prospective plot has had the adjacent plot owner applying to zone for a golf course for the better part of a decade already...
If people do not want a golf course in their back yard, you had better believe that they will not want a race facility in their backyard...

you would see an increase in performance depending on how aggressive your tune is. personally i would wait until you have a few mods done and then get a tune so your not tuning it twice

3 years ago i was most likely there as i spent pretty much every saturday there and the tune is dependent upon the tuner but the base charge just to license your vehicle to HPtuners is $200

hey!? ~ two posts in 24 hours!??

IMHO, I'd just drive the car and enjoy it.

If you're wanting to eek some more power out of it, I'd look at getting a cold air intake, and a header/exhaust.

KissRocker had an SS-2.4, and noticed an immediate performance gain from a shorty header (directly replaced the exhaust manifold, and would bolt to the stock headpipe;
if you opt for a full length header, and match it to a good exhaust, I'd expect someone in your shoes to see an even bigger gain.
I have an older car which is similar in;
  • size/wheelbase
  • vehicle weight
  • drivetrain layout
  • engine size/horsepower
- and I personally saw big gains from exhaust...

at the end of the day these are all depreciating assets, so as long as you're aware that you will NEVER get a return on any money invested in the car - and just have fun with it, you'll be happy...

btw, if no one else has welcomed you here (because I don't recall seeing you before yesterday);
welcome here!

ya a header and downpipe with an exhaust sure does open up the 2.4's quite a bit even without a tune, should be quite a difference once i get tuned.
