Born for Glory, the Chevy Cobalt SS/SC (Maple Grove, PA results)
Last night I could not sleep, it was not insomnia. A eerie feeling of butterflies settles in my stomach as the sun rise finally appeared. It has been a long wait, the last time a test and tune was open at my favorite track (Maple Grove Raceway, PA) it was canceled due to rain and a NHRA event. Finally after weeks of anticipation I started my 2006 rally yellow SS/SC. It has been stock (the way it comes from factory) for almost three months now. Hoped it was the last track day it would be stock. Disapointed in my first and only track passes from the last time, I was highly excited about trying to break my 14.7 1.4th run. After much practice on the streets shifting in a safe areas I realized how to launch my vehicle, but it still could use some work.
It was now 8am and my best friend's Fox body Mustang roared into my drive way. He was also vey excited about this cruise to Maple Grove, PA. After a few months of building his 302 it was now time to test it out. After setting the trailor up and putting his Mustang on the trailor we double checked the things to bring list. Everything was there and ready to go. We arrived at Maple Grove Raceway around 9am and the gates were just opening. Maybe 2 or 3 other people beat us to the gate. My rally yellow cobalt ss/sc was the second car to under go inspection. He asked if I was stock and if I would break into the 13s I would need a helmet. I just kind of chuckled and thought it was nice of him to think I would run that fast. I pulled into the first lane and sure enough it was time to get serious. Approched the stage and pulled my e-brake. After lighting my cold tires up (avoiding the water pitt) I backed up and re-staged. The light turned green and I was off! Launched the car at about 4k rpms and wheel hopped like a bunny. After finally grabbing traction I grabbed 3erd gear and got my time slip. The embrassement set in and I turned bright red! A 15.937 @ 94.67mph.
The adrenaline pumped way to much on the first run and I hit my rev limiter in every gear. Lucky for me at this point I only seen about 10 cars lined up at the track. Maybe no one seen me. I pulled up and was ready to go. First run was at 10:14am. My second run was at 10:22am. At this rate I could get 100 passes in my the end of the day. I pulled up and took a deep breath. Closed my eyes and concentrated. Made my pass and it felt much better. To my surprise I beat my best time. 14.599 @ 98.79mph. With this said I'll get into the rest of my time slips...
Runs 1-11.
3erd 14.596 @ 100.09mph 2.469 60"
4th 14.266 @ 100.02 mph 2.282 60" Second Best of the Day
5th 14.407 @ 99.87 mph 2.332 60"
6th 14.241 @ 100.06 mph 2.238 60" Best Run I ever Had
7th 14.345 @ 100.04 mph 2.382 60"
8th 14.688 @ 98.27 mph 2.427 60"
9th 14.700 @ 98.96 mph 2.431 60" Worst Time of the Day
10th 14.455 @ 99.30 mph 2.336 60"
11th 14.359 @ 99.10 mph 2.229 60"
As some of you know my first time at the track I ran a 14.7 best out of two runs. With practice I honestly think with the right conditions the Coablt SS/SC g85 could run a 13.9 with a perfect driver. At any rate I think this car was deff. under rated and soon enough people will give it the credit is deserves.
Special thanks to cobaltss.net for the information that allowed me to launch my car and run great times at the track today. This site is a monument for all of those who want to be the best of the best with their Cobalts.

Thanks for the props guys. I am going one more time on Nov. 4th. I would really like to break into the 13s with a completly stock from the factory ss/sc. IMO this will be very hard and I need to get a perfect launch. After studing my 1/4th slips it seems as if every tenth of a second gained on the 60 foot you gain 2 tenths at the end of the 1.4th. If this is indeed the case if I can land a low 2.2 or 2.1 60" I can hit around 14.0 flat 13.9. I personally yjink your car is no longer stock after putting anything differant on that did not come from factory. I think our cars could run consistant 14.1-13.9s with better tires but that would no longer be stock. At any rate I need to get my scanner working so I can send these slips to BadassSS for the offical 1/4th time slips. You know after getting alot of runs in you learn so much about how to drive your car at the track. Another days condition changes however will effect things so we will see.
