Cobalt SS vs. C5 Corvette

My buddies dad has a 1998 Corvette the C5 and thinks its hilarious that I have a cobalt ss and think its a pretty quick car (keep in mind i'm 18 years old and bought/fixed the car myself.. i take a little pride in it). Anyways he told me today when he saw me out driving that he almost turned around to race me down the highway so he could waste me..

About 2 weeks ago his son (my buddy) and i were crusing down the high way and did a 50mph roll and he didnt pull on me very hard for a corvette (automatic).

Now to the good part.. his dad told me that he would race me for $1000 and said that even with stage 3 that I could not beat his C5 corvette at a drag strip. I'm gonna try and take him up on that offer once I stage 3 and tune my car.

Its an 05 supercharged.. do you guys think stage 3 will be enough to do it? Or do I need a shot of nitrous and head studs lol? I'm also considering a g85 tranny.

BTW i'm not only doing this for the race these are all things that i've had in mind when I bought the car. Just want to show that old man his corvette aint what it used to be when my COBALT has a 5 car lead on it hahaha.

Help me get my car to where it needs to be by next summer.

Without much knowledge in drag racing or corvettes... I'd say the Vette still has the advantage being rwd and auto. Your going to want to practice launching... And probably invest in some good slicks too....

Others with more knowledge will come in hopefully

Yeah you better start going to the track now and practicing. If not you'll likely get destroyed.

How old is this dad?? Pretty immature acting if you ask me.... Making fun of an 18 year olds car, because he has a vette.

I'll race him for ya. I only have S3

Oh haha we always mess around and talk **** on eachother. He has a mustang that he's swapping with a 429 stroker and i always tell him its a hunk of **** hahaha. And yeah right.. only s3

I honestly dont think he'd care if i did a cam job or added nitrous or anything either. I just have to keep wraps on what i'm doing cause if he finds out before hand he'll have something better lol.. or he might just bring his 429 which wouldnt be pretty...

A stock corvette c5 will take you with even your stage 3. My uncle ran 13.3 at 104 in a 100% stock auto c5, with factory 273 gears, if this guy has the factory performance 315 gears that some c5 autos came with, he might be in the 12s.

With drag slicks and him screwing up, you might have a chance.

Get the s3, some nos, gut as much weight as you can and ask him to roll race from whatever speed the SC is best from and he is worst at.

If you can convince his son to load his dads trunk with weights that will also not hurt the outcome for you either.

Haha ok, glad he is just messin around with ya. Usually the older guys actually respect our cars and find them interesting for what they are.

Eh race him.... either way (win or loose) it will be fun!

If talking to me.... It was a joke. I'm well beyond just S3

If talking to the OP, a set of drag radials and some practice with the cars will make the race decent.

Idk his car doesnt seem that much faster than mine as it sits. He also has 128,000 miles lol its pretty much a daily driver. I know cobalts arent fast by anymeans lol, but i think stage 3 would sure give him a race.
