5th gear sync bad
5th gear sync bad
Hey guys need some help. My 5th gear sync went out so she is grinding going into 5th. Luckly I have another vehicle so I dont have to drive my cobalt. I need to get her fixed but I dont have the time anymore to work on such a big projects. Anybody know of someone in Michigan that can fix this for a descent price. I talked to the dealer they told be it was going to be 700 dollars just to tell me what was wrong with it. I think that is alot of money just to take a tranny out. Well let me know if any of you have a good tranny guy.
Sorry it is an 06 SS/SC

okayy well am not the only one ...first step dont take your car to chevy if u have no warrenty they will telll you you need a new tranny and cluth after looking at it .....i told them to **** off haha take it to a tranny shop in my case the sync in 2nd was bad but i also blew some gaskets and a throw arm.....the parts were 500 ....and labor about 450 soo goood luck
Even when I RPM match it she still grinds a little. I stop driving it so the damage would be minimal, dont want to buy 5th gear, im sure that would be alittle pricey. I would take it to a tranny shop but I dont know of any good ones around my area, Im sure there are plenty just not for sure.
I hope thats not whats starting to go with mine, I have trouble putting it into 3rd gear when I shift at 7000rpm in 2end at WOT, but when I'm driving normal theres no probelm, and when I'm downshifting from 4th gear around 3000 putting 3rd at around 4000 to slow down or even when I'm downshifting to pass, all is good. But either way, with your problem with 5th gear, just drive it in 4th and avoid the highway, I never go 5th in the city and very rarely in the country, beacuse it'd bog down at normal speeds. So till you can get it fixed you dont need to just parkt he car, just dont drive it on the highway, thats what I did with my Mazda mx6 when the tranny was starting to go.
Well your fuel mileage would hurt more but you could drive it in 4th on the highway really, I mean you'd only redline 4th gear at 150mph, so at 75mph you'd only really be reving the engine to 3500rpm.
