The "Broken F35 Transmission" thread
A retired Chevy factory worker worked with me part time a few years ago. He was telling me horror stories about GM's quality control at the transmission plant. He said they would have three bins.. one for parts that passed, two for parts that didn't pass. The ones that didn't pass were then divided up by how far out of spec they were.. if they were a little out of spec they would get sent to different companies to get made into "remanufactured" units. The ones that were way off would get sent back to China or the plant they came from to get remachined.
He said his floor manager often pulled parts out of both bins to go into the transmissions they were building to make quota. He said sometimes up to 15,000 a batch. He said he worked with input shafts when he saw that.. so that means out of each batch of cars leaving the dealership.. 15,000 out of round input shafts.
If it was done there.. you know it was done at other parts of GM's facilities.

What are you asking for it? IF you're serious.
Earlier in this thread they talk about Cryogenic treating. The trans is completely disassembled, dipped into liquid nitrogen (-321 deg F) and media bead blasted then reassembled with the new GM parts that are not reuseable. This process is used in race cars up to and including Formula 1 and compared to other options it's not all that expensive. I got a price a couple years ago of $.50/# of treated parts in my LS1 powered Fiero using the stock 5sp. That was for the cryo only plus dissambly and reassembly, unless you can do that yourself. But without a press and assembly fixtures the job would be difficult to impossible for the DIYer. The blasting would probably be quite a bit more than that.

Actually, from what I've read, cryogenic treatment does improve wear resistance quite well by realigning the molecular structure of the metal. I know it sounds like snake oil but it's serious science. Do a little research to learn more. This is the first site I looked at. It gives some pretty interesting facts and if you search around they give the prices for the individual parts of an engine. They don't mention transmissions but I'm sure they do them as the benefits they talk about would definately help trans longevity.

I threw third gear in my LSJ tranny. It went straight out the side of the tranny and hit the clutch. When i drained what oil was left i found slivers and chunks of gears rolling out with the oil. I stuck a magnet in there and fished out most of them, put some more oil in it and drove for about another 200 miles with no 3rd lol wasnt too fun.
An unknown upgrade for the F35 is the new 6 speed automatic that will be used on the LNF powered Buick Regal. The engine is only rated 220 HP but weighs 3600+ # so the trans must be pretty stout. Automatics GENERALLY are easier to improve on so I'm sure somebody will be making parts for them when there are enough of them on the road to make it worth their while.
you wouldn't happen to have the pn for that trans, I have a feeling that's what I'm working with.

Whoops! I didn't read AUTOMATIC the first read. You'd have to get those numbers from a dealer IF they even have them yet. The trans is going to be used on the Buick, Regal. I just looked at it again. You're gioing to have to be patient though. Read on.

OOOOOKKKKK! The car isn't going to hit the street till the 2011 model year. I don't understand what you're saying. That trans will be a brand new piece. At this point in time a transverse, 6 speed, automatic, for the Ecotec motors doesn't exist yet. Or am I missing something?
I dunno, but I have a trans I'm using to do a swap on an lnf cobalt, not the standard eco auto, but none of the part numbers from the case or plate come up anywhere.
all I see is a 6 E L on the plate.

And this one. Look down the page. I didn't study this site but it loks like the 6 speed is for V6's only. Will a V6 trans bolt to an Ecotec?

Good luck. Let us know how it works out. A 6 speed auto would be an awsome upgrade, Did you notice the HP and torque ratings for the ones I pointed out? I'd be very interested.
yeah found all those ratings, but nothing with the tag numbers I have.
oh well I'll find out in a week or so when my friend and i finish the swap.
trying to figure everything out before this is done.

My name is Bill "buellfooll@msn.com". Better than tying up the forum and catching hell.
How about that!! I lived 2 years with an uncle on Winona Lake. A year in Cornwall then 16 years in Middlehope. Where abouts in Warwick? What road is the shop on? Many years ago I peddled Snap On tools in Warwick. Actually the whole western half of Orange county from 208 west. The uncle had the eastern half. And his son, my cousin, had all of Ulster county. And I made many deliveries around Warwick, Florida, Goshen, Chester, etc., for 13 years with Preston Trucking. I'll send you the PM when I leave. I'll give you my phone number. I can hit Newburgh on the way to the Island. That would be a great side trip. I will look forward to it.
sounds good to me man,
yeah I actually live in the winona lake (town of newburgh) lol, shop is on mountainside drive in warwick (up in the hills).
guys name is Bill that owns the garage, you might know him or his dad. (davenport)
definitely hit me up, I think you'll like the setup's we got rolling around these days

anyone know what kind of $ is associated with having a shop disassemble and reassemble one of these? i got to thinking, since i've already got the trans on the floor, it may be a good idea to go ahead and have everything cryo'd and polished

yeah screw that.. whole damn trans was barely over that. this one blows, i'll just buy another
i didn't ask someone to send me a quote, it asks what kind of costs are "associated" which is broad and self-explanatory

Most shops wont even work on these transmissions.
I remember AAMCO will (atleast around me) and I believe they are $300 to pull and inspect it. Then the price goes up depending on what you want done.
