CV Axel going?

CV Axel going?

09 SS: After installing all the bolt ons and getting it tuned everything’s been fine. On Monday however I started hearing this whine from my front end. It doesn’t match the RPMs it doesn’t move with the transmission, but it climbs with speed. Car feels fine and all but to me it sounds like my CV Axel’s are going? Any inputs to this? And if they are how easy are they to install?

Does it get louder when taking a turn?

No the slower I go the less I hear it. It sounds like an airplane engine at 60-80. Just this crazy loud whine. No popping or clicking or anything.

Have you checked your wheel bearings in a while? Put it up on jacks and spin the tire. You'll know right away.

I haven’t but those Hub Assys only have 1,500 miles on them at the most. I had them replaced just a couple months back. I’ll still check it though, figured while it’s up I’ll see if the sound is coming from where the CV enters the Tranny or on the wheel side.

Actually you might be right. I replaced my Rear hubs not the front. I’ll confirm that today. Thank you very much for the insight.

Glad to help. If it is the wheel bearing, have a mini sledge handy. They can be rust welded to the knuckle. I had to smack my bitch up (pun/reference intended) to get it to finally pop.
