G85 is worth it!!!

I don't know if you nall noticed, but EVERY road test we've read about (Motorweek, Motortrend, Edmunds, etc) included a SS/SC equipped with the G85. Motorweek launched the car from 0-60 mph in 6.1 sec. IMO, this would not have been possible without the LSD.

Also, just the Recaro seats alone are worth the extra cash. However, for those of you who are not convinced, then an aftermarket LSD can be installed by most tranny shops WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!

Hey guys. I don't have a Cobalt but I'm getting pretty interested in one due to all of the issues I've had with my rsx.

Anyway, they RSX comes without a lsd and off the line traction and cornering traction is pretty good but when you start adding more power traction becomes and issue. Especially for a lot of RSX'ers with superchargers.

I had a LSD put in my car a couple of months ago and you can tell a difference immediately. When going through turns it feels like you are stuck to the road. It almost feels like you are being pulled out of every turn.

From a dig grip is much better as well. A lot less tire spin.

I would assume it would be the same for the Cobalt.

All I know now is that every car I get is going to have a lsd in it.

You can buy directly from GM Parts counter and it costs approx. $1425 US. I recommend you get a GM tech to install in order to keep your warranty valid.

The LSD Performance Option

As I have posted elsewhere in this forum, I bought the 2005 SS/SC because of the Quaife lsd, and what I did not say is the reason I did not wait the two months to get the 2006 is because American manufacturers have a history of using the Quaife for short periods then dropping the option. The Quaife lsd operates on the same principle as the Torsen, but as far as I know Torsen does not make one for a compact fwd car.

Even with the Quaife there is a vestigial degree of wheel hop present on take off, but no where near as disconcerting as a supercharged compact without it. I drove a supercharged Cavalier as my daily driver for two years without lsd but with all kinds of bracing (which reduced wheel hop markedly but no where near as much as the Quaife does even without the braces. I know there is a major structural difference between a 2003 Cavalier and a 2005 Cobalt, so I admit I am comparing an apple to an orange. But it was worth it to me to let the Cavalier go in favor of the Cobalt, and what made it worth it was the Performance Package.

Not related, but so far I seem to have been one of the lucky ones: none of the problems elsewhere reported have surfaced, and I am over 1600 miles, took delivery June 2.
