Why do I still have wheelhop?
Why do I still have wheelhop?
Ok heres the deal. I just installed my ingalls TB and its set at around 11 or so mm. I have the RSM Tranny Mount and my tires have 32 psi in them right now. I have 225/45/18s on a 7.5 inch rim. I still get wheel hop if i let the clutch out slowly at aroudn 2k then mash it to the floor.
Any ideas?
Any ideas?
The closer the 2 big nuts are the tighter it is I assume. There is only like 1 thread there, 1 more thread and theyll touch and I think thats 10mm which is the stiffest setting. Its all snug and tight too. I dont get it.

???? strange
The tires im using are in my sig. Kuhmo Ecstas spts. I was thinking the same thing about them being a wider tire. I also thought about lowering my psi but wtih my stage 1 on the way with my 3.0 pulley, i think itll take care of it.
Well befor stage 2 I had no wheel hop with just tires rims and the ZZp motor mount.
After stage 2 I have massive wheel hop agen.
I found that runing my tires at 46PSI with nitrogen insted of air gave me more grip then I had at 32psi with air.
As a resalt of geting more traction my clutch now slips. When I put my winter tires on I have no clutch slip and no traction ether.
Im runing with the winter tires on for now.

i dont even need to say anything and i rest my case
People who believe that torque dampners solve wheel hop are misinformed. You buy a dampner to minimize motor movement not to stop wheel hop. The wheel hop will still occur with just a dampner it just makes it less violent as it occurs. As I said above, wheel hop will still happen but obviously the blows a softened due the motor not slamming around.

What is wheel hop. well it is the tire twisiting underload and traction to a point that is springs because the tire energy overcomes the spring and shock absorber. the movement of the engine just multiply's this affect. I dont know for sure but I bet LSD would help as well.
so what do you do? find someone who has a good setup. have you talked to someone with EIBACKS AND POLY URETHANE BUSHINGS control arm bushings? Just a guess that these two things with wider or even taller tires will improve things. Find someone with 255/60 r16 on there car. what results do they have.
bottom line i know what causes it and if I have a solution you bet I will post it here. good luck in your guest. you have made a good purchase by the way. you have just upt the ante that is all.
But what do I know.... I am a junior member. what a title!

The fact is that the more HP you dump into this car, the more you're going to have to dump into other parts such as motor mounts, control arm bushings, struts, etc... For the power levels we're achieving now, I think it's safe to say that you don't have to go overboard with things. Motor mounts, bushings, and/or a torque brace should suffice.
If you're running a stage kit and only a torque brace I would highly recommend upping the ante a little bit and adding a little bit more. They definitely help but as people have mentioned they are not the end all to your problems with wheel hop. Likewise, those of you that have bought the ZZP top mount are putting more bracing in the same area that your torque brace is while the other 3 are flopping around like a wet noodle. Good numbers are more than the amount of HP you're putting to the ground.
Ill be runing the following parts as soon as the trans mounts and CABs come it for wheel hop.
1: ZZP old style uper motor mount. (They have a new stiffer one that is more money but works beter. It dos make more vibes though)
2: 235 / 40 / 18 BFG KDW2s.
3: 18X7.5 wheels that are about 4lb lighter then stock each.
4: Intense Trans mounts (Not here yet)
5: JBP CABs (Also not here yet)
6: Eibach pro kit springs. (Have not ordered them yet) "Im off work for a few days do to a broken truck so there going to have to wait a few more weeks"
I think that all that should help me get off the line alot beter and get rid of 100% of my wheel hop on the street and the track.

lower your tire pressure to about 29 psi
