alternator hookup

alternator hookup

where does the black wire coming off the copper alternator stud go to? 2005 base 5 speed.

Don't quote me on this but it more likely than not is connected to the charging post @ your under the hood fuse box like JJ said.....

no its to short to go to that. anybody got a 2.2 that they can go out and check where thers goes to?

lol well logically if its bigger then 16g its either power or ground. i just assumed that gm would be cheap and only use brass posts for the pos not the neg. but i honestly dont know i just made that guess. a multimeter will tell you thou

Btw it is the fuse able link for the alternator. After going over the wireing digram figured out what it was.

but just for clarification the fuseable link is on the alt or the brass post had short wire to a fuseable link then to the fusebox?

actually no. i thought it would be hooked up that way to but how its hooked up on the 05 2.2 is connected to the brass stud on the alternator then to the starter solenoid where the 4 gauge wire leading to the under hood fusebox. Solid piece of 14 gauge fuseable link making the connection. what they are relying on is when there is to many amps drawing the whole wire melts instead of a fuse popping.

cool good looking out again ya gm has done that **** for years. i just honestly have never looked at my stock alt or connections at all.
