CRAP! Help Please!

I ordered one of these blink smart stop things which make your 3rd brake light blink for a few seconds before it turns solid. I installed it just like and says and when I press on the brake, the 3rd brake light blinks like it supposed to...but thats it. My other two tail lights wont work for some reason when I press the brake. Then when I turn on my lights the brake lights light up dimly but still wont work when I press the brake. Also when I turn my lights on the 3rd brake light wont light up dimly, just when I press the brake. Help please!

It's a pretty simple device. Like putting a switch on the wire. Where are you tapping into the wires? The easiest place would be right at the light unless the device won't fit under the little hood. All you should be doing is tapping twice on the positive wire (and cutting the wire between the taps) and once on the negative wire.

Noone can't accuratly tell you whats going on unless you tell us exactly what you did and on what wires.

the 3rd brake light doesn't light up dimly when the lights are on. and I'm thinking you cut a wire instead of tapping into it...more details would be good.

I realized when I turn the key everything seems to be working, but it seems like it was working randomly. I just tapped off the ends of where I cut in the middle and it seems to be working fine like maybe they were randomly touching the metal of the trunk? I still dont get why when the key is off only the 3rd brake light lights up, I only messed with the wires to the light. Heres a pic.

you mean if your car is not on and you hit the brake the 3rd brake light lights up? Yeah thats normal too...(mine does it too) Do I know why? not a clue, but that and the 3rd brake light not being dimly lit when the lights are on is normal too.

Ya that was definatly stupid of me forgetting how the 3rd doesnt stay lite dimily. I did not know that about when the key was off, thanks for clearing that up. I hope tapeing them off fixed how it was working on and off. Oh well case closed I guess.

I always tape. but ussually solder too. (I only noticed the 3rd light goes on when the cars off cause it lights up the garage door when I'm backed up to it and I was like, wth? (and the cavalier does it too)

I had replaced the 3rd brake light with LED's and wondered the same about the Dim lite when lights on, but lucky me I had 3 cobalts at the time to compare too....lol

Hope the tape works for you, and might want to make sure the conections are tight too.

After I looked more into these little devices, im a kindof interested; especially the one with a delay circuit sounds cool. To keep from anoying the hell out of everyone in heavy traffic.

The only thing I see might be confusing is if you brake and flip on the turn signal at the same time there are a bunch of different things flashing at different rates, which could confuse the hell outa old folks... causing them to run into ya anyway. eheheh

Yea I also tightend the clamps harder. Yea I got the one with the delay for traffic and stuff in so cal. There are different products they have, are you thinking of the one that blinks the tail lights or are you just saying with the signal blinking and the 3rd tail light? I ordered the led strip also, its on backorder so its taking forever! I like the product. Something kind of unique and an easy add on for unly $22.

The device gets grouned though the negative wire on the light though. Oh well evertying is tight and secure now. ^how hard is it to rebuild a top end on a bike? Mine needs it soon.

3rd brake light blinker most likely blinks at a different rate (probably faster) than the signal blink. I'm sure it could be a bit confusing in certain circumstances.
