Manual Electric Fan Switch

I was at the track last night and my car gets really hot really fast and noted that the electric fans did not kick on all the time and I had to use my blower fans instead to try and get some heat away from the engine. I was wondering if anyone has rigged a manual bypass switch up to be able to turn the fans on whenever you wanted. If so could you give me some guidance on what I need to do. Thanks

I didnt find a how to but I did find this https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...hlight=fan+mod From the diagram it looks like i have to splice into the blue wire on fan1 and the gray wire on fan2 and run them back to a switch where i would ground them out. Is that right or did i misinterpret the diagram?

I just looked at the car outside and there are only 3 wires that run the fans blue, gray, and black. Blue and Gray are the positive connections and the black is ground. However these are some pretty thick gauge wire and the diagram I found said to use 12AWG wire and run it to a 30A relays (didnt specify what relay#) just have a switch controlling ground to the relay inside the car and to run each fan separate. I don't want to have a switch for each fan I just want 1 that will run both of them and do I really need to use relays for this? Couldn't I just use a high amp rated switch with an inline fuse before the switch

no just close the open end of the fan relay by giving it 12v. so it would be THICK wire (lot of amps) from 12v source, to the switch, to the open end of the fan relay using a regular fuse tap. ill post pics later.

much simpler and safer, once u see how its done, u will realize it really is that simple.

If i understand correctly it as simple as just putting that wire in there and then running it to a switch that supplies 12V. The only question I have is if there is something already hardwired into that terminal of the relay stock so that you could tap into it elsewhere in the wire loom somewhere to make it look cleaner. However guessing from your previous comment about the open end of the relay im gonna guess that there is no wire ran to that terminal in the stock setup. I think if I do this I will take apart the fuse box and hardwire it to the terminal for a cleaner look. Also this way if I have to take it to the dealership they wont ask 50 million questions about what it is and why its there.

yup, u got it

im just warning u, use correct wire,

you can just jump the relay to a 12 v source for race days and pull it out when u dont want it, but i like it always there, another option would be to wire it to a switched power source and have it always on when the car is on

aight i will get some 12awg wire and hook it all up tomorrow. Do you know what size fuse i should use or where to find a constant 12V source around the dash area besides that cig lighter? I would use it but would like to tap into the inside fuse panel for power instead and just use one of those add a circuit adapters

ya, well, each fuse box has a constant 12v power source, and there are a number of other places, (jump terminals, battery) for constant 12. i am actually thinking about doing what u did, but with all my stuff and making it nice and hidden by just tapping the wires under the fusebox.

So does yours have a switch installed or is it wired direct and the fans are one whenever the car is on

For anyone that is interested I have started a how to on how to go about doing this. Instead of just putting a wire under the relay, I show how to wire it directly into the fuse box. If you want to see the half completed how to let me know and I'll send you a link to it. Once it is fully complete I will post it in the how to section for everyone.

Interested as well, seems that a relay would need to be involved somewhere in there.
