My sound system project: fiberglass galore!

I've decided to do some interior upgrading for the sound system in my 06 SS/SC. Straight to the point, here are my plans:

Custom fiberglassed rear deck- my plans for the rear deck are pretty simple. Mount the 6x9 speakers where they are tilted slightly towards the front. I also wanna mount an amp between the two speakers, which will power not only the 6x9's but the door speakers as well. I already have a 520w peak power pioneer amp that's small enough to mount between the speakers. Finally, fiberglass and paint.

Custom fiberglass door panels- I hate how our door panels are three different pieces!!! So I wanna fix this problem along with bring the door speakers and tweeters out to the surface, custom mounted of course. These will also be painted.

Custom fiberglass center dash- I would like to give credit to twofknloud in this months featured car section for coming up with the neat ideo of moving the ac controls to the cup holder. For my setup, I will have to do this. I plan to install an in-dash cd/dvd player where I would normally install one, but instead of a cd player mounted where the ac controls once were, I plan on mounting two gauges(not sure which ones yet). In the empty space between the in-dash and the gauges I plan on mountin all my various toggle switches I have now and soon to come. Like before, this will be fiberglassed and painted to match.

Simple, yet difficult lol. First, I have to figure out how to fiberglass. Any suggestions would be wonderful from anyone. In the mean time, I'll be doing my research on how to fiberglass and what not so that when the time comes to do all of this, I'll be ready. Hopefully I'll be able to do it all in one weekend. Like I said, any comments or suggestions are much appreciated....

UPDATE:
So I just took the rear deck out and began measurements. I decided that I'm simply going to tilt the rear of the 6x9's up 2 inches so that it points towards the front. I'm not messing with anything else. To support the fiberglass deck, I will be filling the space between the metal and fiberglass with foam. I'll post pictures asap

I guess I should have mentioned that I do have someone helping me. This is kinda the learning stage for me, but once I catch on I'm sure it's not too bad. I have plenty of experience with bondo and most body work, so hopefully that's a plus...

Thanks and I totally understand what you mean. I went overboard with my last car and it never got finished. I'll keep that in mind.

Update:
Today I pulled all three rear seat belts and the two "a pillar?" panels so they wouldn't be in the way of anything. I plan on coming back with only two harnesses, yes I said harnesses, in the back along with two in the front. I also removed the car seat hardware. After finishing that, I found me a good piece of 1 3/4" thick board and cut out the spacer that each speaker will mount to. I decided -1/4" wouldn't make much difference, plus it gives me more clearance between the speaker and the window. Sorry for the lack of pictures. My little brother just recently lost my BRAND NEW DIGITAL CAMERA and I cannot find it for anything. I'll try to borrow a friends. The weather forecast isn't looking too good for this weekend down here on the coast, so I may not be able to work on this. I'll keep any updates posted though.

I'm also taking suggestions on which speakers to get. I had intentions of using clarion, but seeing how one of my brand new 6x9's blew after only 3 months of use, I've decided to switch back to pioneer. I'd like something that requires an external amp to power. Thanks!

edit: Okay I'm at my friends house and just got a few quick pictures..

this is the spacer. that line on the side is the angle at which this block of wood will be cut. the "wedge" will then be mounted onto the metal frame underneath the rear deck. this is what will lift the speaker up and tilt it forward.

an overhead view of the spacer. the hole for the speaker is yet to be cut out. will probably do that here shortly.

what's underneath the rear deck. I'll be connecting the spacers to the holes that are already made for the speakers.

will have more pictures later

Wow, this is going to be one sick project. I have always thought our door panels looked cheap. And I hate the cup holders, so it would be kool to fill them with the AC stuff and make space for gauges. This is going to be awesome! Take a lot of pictures a long the way!

Thanks man I'll definitely be hitting you up then. I'm tryin to stay optimistic about this but I'm kinda worried I might screw it up.

Nope, I'm actually looking for a person locally whose the shiz in carbon fiber. I need to get the clear on my hood refinished. It came from Cobalt Add. with a cracked spot in the finish and a spot underneath the finish with air bubbles... I can't get good enough pictures to send to them so they can file a report so I'm screwed.

Yeah they're pretty cheap. I messed the one up on the drivers side just by simply trying to take it off to get to the speaker. The long horizontal seam that splits it into two pieces broke... I call it plasic weld. It came apart half way and now it looks crappy...

It's not gonna be anything big. I'm not throwing a big sub enclose in the back or anythingn like that. I'll just replace the stock sub with a shallow mount pioneer and hook it up to a nice amp and I'll be done with that. I do intend on having a screen and the 360 hooked up in the trunk though on a custom rack so it'll be pretty sweet... Hopefully... I'm just trying to upgrade my show quality. I'm trying to get a few things sponsored..

Sorry for no updates tonight, I worked all day and I just got home (it's now 11:24 my time). I'm pretty much booked the rest of the weekend as well so I may not get much done.

cool ya if u find anything let me know. CF is very much like fiberglass so if you think its mainly in the epoxy resin or clear coat then theres a small option of fixing it but if its an issue with the cf mat itself bubbling then ur screwed

I think the weave may be fine. I'm pretty sure it's all in the clear finish... I always have bad luck with stuff like this lol the bc2 body kit didn't fit AT ALL whenever it came in. Took the paint shop a full month to get it on and painted... extreme dimensions FTL

Thanks bro. Much appreciated!

Sorry for not having any updates this weekend. I've been so busy with various things. I'll jump on it again tomorrow. I will be removing the XM box and reorganizing the wires so they won't be in the way... I'm still waitin to get the spacers cut. As soon as i do that then they will be mounted to check fitment. Then, I'll most likely mount the stock 6x9's to the spacers until I get my new pioneer's... I can sacrifice looking shitty until I get em lol I'm not putting up with a busted 6x9.

Once i finish the rear deck I'll probably move on to the door panels because the drivers side panel needs fixing desperately...

Alas! Progress! I have pictures! Today I worked on the amp spacers that will be used to mount the amp, centered, between the two 6x9's. I also took the xm box out.. Still not finished with all the spacers, but here's what Ive had time to do...

This is the amp I'll be using to push my 6x9's...hopefully. It's a 520 peak power pioneer mosfet amp. It's rated at 130 W x 2/4 ohms... I'm not good with ohms and all that shiz but hopefully it'll do the job. It pushed 2 bazooka ten inch subs half decently for about a year, so I'm gonna give it a go.

Front view...

Angled side view...

Angled rear view...

And now I'm off to get ready for work! I'll probably work on it more tomorrow... I'm still open to suggestions on which speakers to get! Pioneer's preferably... Thanks folks.

Sorry if these pics are too big for anyone. Let me know and if they are I'll try to make em smaller. Work called and they don't want me to come in til a lil later so I got to take some more pictures.

Here's a pic of that xm box. It isn't quite as blurry as the other...

And here's the pic of the plug ins that goes to it.

What the rear deck currently look like. Next time you see this picture, I'll have all three spacers installed. Just have to do some fine tuning to them and they'll be ready.

I've decide to not fiberglass the rear deck and for good reason. I noticed today that even with the rear panels taken out, I can't lay the rear deck back into it's place without bending it a considerable amount. Bending+Fiberglass=Fail. So, instead, I'll be using some black suede and maybe trim it up some with some yellow.
