Talking Need your help guys!

hey everyone, i have a few questions that i need help with:

i have an alpine cda-9811 headunit that's going in for the factory, but from what i have read, the stock headunit puts out 228watts total to six speakers, and my alpine headunit only puts out 50x4.
do you think this will make a big difference?

also
aftermarket headunit's, i read on my metra instruction manual, they have to tap from the fuse box in order to get power because our stock headunits do not have a switched 12 volt accessory lead, does this mean when ever i turn the engine off the headunit itself will go off to?

Your help will be greatly appreciated, my date i put in my headunit is tomorrow, so any info given will be of great help.

thanks guys

I have not installed a head unit in a cobalt with the 6 speaker system so I can't speak for that. As far as taping into the fuse in the fuse box, just tap into one with Retained Accessory power. This would include the Sunroof, etc. Just make sure you tap into the side that the fuse protects.

Also, I thought the 6 speaker system had a factory external amp?

As I said, if you wire it to the sunroof fuse it will not go off until you open the door without the key in the ignition. If you turn the car off, remove the key, the radio will stay on, just like the stock radio.

yes and no... you will need to either figure out a way to hook up the new hu to the factory amp. if you do you will be fine. or you will want to replace your speakers.... (im not sure on the front 6.5 and tweeter but the 6X9s are two ohm for sure) 2 ohm speakers will fry a headunit thats made for 4 ohm (most are check your specs) and you will need an amp for the sub

ah thanks guys for the input, i put the headunit in, only problem is the headunit goes off when the key is taken out or just clicked twice down, but oh well. sounds great, cept for the lows, almost over-powering and puts distortion at high volumes, but i like it regardless =)

Sounds like you wired it into the ignition instead of the line I told you to wire it in. If you are happy, then thats all that matters :-)
