Stuck on HID installation
Stuck on HID installation
Hey guys,
Received Gen3 projectors last night and also bought the H1 HID kit for them..Now run into a slight problem...When I try and fit the H1 bulb into the low beam..the bulb plus the filament seem to be to big for the housing.....any suggestions or if anyone else had this problem? Thanks

HID's are in general longer bulbs then regular halogens. I dont pay attention to 2nd or 3rd gen projectors bc i dont like them so i cant help more then that. id see if any other memebers have had more experiance
I have 3rd generation projectors and I put H1 HID's in mine.
Its a bit of a snug fit but it can be done.
I think I had to re-bend that metal clip that holds the bulb in from the back to fit around the HID bulb. I don't think its the lenth of the bulb thats doing it, its the rubber mounts that are on the HID's that were not present on the bulbs that came with it. Just be really gentle with them when your doing it and remember not to touch the bulbs, latex gloves can't hurt.
Mine were aimed really low from the factory, remember when you aim them, the two bolts that sit behind the light housing are what you use to aim them and it goes, tighten the bolts to lower the beam, loosen the bolts to raise the beam.
BTW-You have to put your stock turn signal bulbs into the projectors, but they are orange, it looks way better it you put clear turn signal bulbs in, I think the part number was 3157 on the bulbs, any automotive shop should have them there a reallly common bulb type.

Mine had the cut off line hid the road about 15 feet in front of the car.
Remember when you ajust them that you have to turn the nut a few times to get it to be noticeable. I think I need 8-10 full revolutions to bring it back up. Be sure to count how many you do on the first side so you can make life a little easier when you do the other side

Great thanks for the help...while trying to squeeze the HID bulb into the low beam housing last night, it was pretty much an impossible fit..Don't want to push to hard and crack the bulb. It seems the housing that is there that was made for the halogen it came with is a bit to small, other have said to cut it a bit. Well I'll have to give it another go tonight against a good flat wall and surface see if things will turn out better. Thanks for the advice...but do let me know about the cutting the housing part...
If anything its not the lenth thats the issue. Its the size of the hole that you have to put the bulb into.
Don't cut!!!
Dremel or file.
But listen can you get it so the rubber part on the bulb is touching the housing of the projector or is it getting stuck before that. I just got mine in far enough to let the rubber met metal, took the spring off and re-bent to fit the bigger rubber piece on the outside of the HID and clicked it into place, they are very stable and then I just made sure the rubber piece at the very back was air tight. I've had mine on for 6 months now and have not had a problem with the bulbs or condensation.

It is getting stuck about half way into the hole...I can't even fit the bulb fully into the original hole. Cuz you see how the plastic piece that is on the back of the bulb which is round with a flat cut off side...that is getting stuck on the housing where the halogen bulb fits...kinda hard to explain
I wont be able to take a pic right now, might be in a couple days... Im in Winnipeg Manitoba
If you take a look at the DS2 bulb in the pic on this thread...just under the bulb there is a round piece, basically the piece that doesnt fit into the housing...

Winnipeg Huh, well i think the 24 hour drive to vancouver is a bit to far to drive for help, if you were closer i would have met up with you but... I think you got it handled you just don't know it yet
I had the same issue with my 3rd gens as well. I took my dremel and shaved off a bit of the aluminum housing that the bulb fits in. The bulbs fit in perfectly now. Oh yeah, don't forget to remove the squirrel spotter otherwise you'll have glare.
