personally i would keep it with the big 3, pioneer kenwood and alpine are the best as far as HU especially DVD units. there are however several other companies that make good units such as say clarion. They arent bad but i wouldnt really recommend them either.

Before i can give you a real answer what exactly are you looking for? Why are you upgrading or wanting to upgrade?

Anyone know of a place that sells the wiring harness and antenna adapter needed for 07+ Cobalts that is NOT ONLINE!? I need this ASAP as I only have this weekend to do the install and don't have time to wait for shipping. I have a Pioneer AVH X2500 that I'm trying to install.

First off, thanks for the great sticky and info. It's great to stumble on a thread like this. I was hoping you might help me with some basic questions.

I have an '07 LTZ sedan. It is bone stock. the stereo has the 6 disc changer, factory Pioneer tweeters & sub, and steering wheel controls. This last week most of the buttons on the head unit stopped working and I think this is a good time to swap the HU for something with BT calling capabilities. I am perfectly happy with the factory audio performance for this car so I just want to get a new head unit. I have installed systems myself in the past but this time I want to make this is easy as possible. Here is what I was thinking:
- Pioneer DEH-X6600BT (single DIN CD w/ BT)
- Metra 99-302 install kit
- Metra 40-CR10 antenna adapter
- Metra 70-2104 wiring harness

Per the first post in this thread, the wiring harness will not integrate with the GMLAN, so I have a few questions:
1) What exactly is lost by not using the GMLAN? Is it just the door chime when leaving the door open or pressing the lock button before getting out of the car? Or is there more to it?
2) What isn't "plug & play" about this wiring harness? From reading above it seems I need to hook up a wake-up signal from a pink AMP wire to the appropriate connection on the HU. Is there anything else? Switched power?
3) I assume steering wheel controls, OnStar and XM will not work. I am ok with that, but is there anything else that wont be working?
4) Is there any way to interface with the OnStart microphone or will I have to run whatever microphone is included with the HU?

Thanks for any help!

1) by not integrating with GM Lan you lose the door chimes and acc at the harness
2) you would have to run an acc to the fuse box and possibly run the remote wire to the stock amp
3) onstar would be gone for sure. XM and steering wheel controls would be based on if its available for the radio. That model looks like its not setup for sat radio but you could add the necessary parts to retain steering wheel controls
4) interfacing might be possibly but highly improbable. You would need to run the mic included with the HU. If you are fancy you could try replacing the onstar mic with the pioneer mic. IDK if this is actually possible as i have never done anything on a cobalt with the onstar mic but it might be possible

Question 07 cobalt pioneer no onstar

Putting a pioneer dvd head unit in. researched this site and other sites and I know this is a super old topic but has anyone used the Scosche GM-3000 interface to retain factory chimes and i have the Scosche UAA1 antenna adapter as well. I was wondering if these worked for anybody so far. If any one could chime in that would be great.

Unhappy no sound

I recently posted about installing a new HU with a gm-3000 from scosche and the UAA1 antenna from them as well. Well I installed it and everything was fine except no sound. No matter what source I would put it on, no sound came out of my speakers. if anyone could help on this is it the interface module are some pins switched around or is a gm13sr the way to go. If anyone one can give me something to go off of that would be great.

do you have the stock pioneer system? if so that just means you dont have the remote wire to the stock amp connected. Does the harness have a blue/white white?

I got it bro the harness was all perfect except for that blue/white wire which was not there at all. The kit came with three harnesses and one of the other ones had it but it wasn't the one that my balt took. I just removed it from the other one and added it to my harness, pin 3 pk, AND BAM ALL GOOOOOOD! HAHA. Thanks anyways tho. The Scosche GM3000 interface is perfect besides that little flaw. All chimes work too.

06 cobalt LT no pioneer system no onstar

Hello! I am buying a pioneer double din stereo to install in my car and was wondering what type of harness I will need, it says it comes with one, do I use that? Also if a harness is needed is there any that I could but that is just a plug and play that I wouldn't have to tap into the fuse box with? Thanks for all the info!

I have an 05 cobalt ss/SC and o the first post it says that all I need is the metra harness 71-2103-1 . I've heard different things that you need to get a stereo interface. What do I need if I'm installing a Pioneer FH-X700BT stereo.

for an 05-06 you dont need the interface however if you wanted to you could use one

the 71-2103-1 is the reverse harness you want a 70-2103

Hey everyone I just had a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS DVD head unit installed (for free) at Best Buy in my 2007 non-onstar/non-pioneer Cobalt. I went from stock to this system and it's quite the upgrade. My only issue is that when I have the auto headlights on, I cannot activate my high beams (I can flash them by pulling the lever towards me, but when I push the lever away from me, they just don't turn on and neither does the blue light that indicates they've been turned on). The high beams will only work when the auto lights are off. I do not turn these off because I fear draining the battery on accident. I haven't found any information on this. Secondly, my cabin light dimming knob is also non-functional. Best Buy used a Scosche interface if this helps. I have no idea if this interface is the problem, but it's the only thing I can think of. Everything else works just fine, even the turn signal and warning sounds. I was hoping someone could help me diagnose the problem. Thanks!

esh thats going to be a hard one. The only way you would be able to tell if it was due to the install or not is by removing the radio unplugging the harness and see if the problem still exists. if not then you would probably want to try another harness. Since you had it installed by best buy for free you may want to just bring it to them let them know the situation and have them check. Because if they do end up needing to replace the harness you would want them to cover that. They may have some clause in there that install warranty may be void if the customer messes with it so

Thanks man. I think it's best to let them deal with it too, but they deal with so many different vehicles I wanted to get a head start on this. I think I may go with the Pac Audio and tell them to take the Sosche out. These things were working before with the factory unit. I'm not sure how the high beams and light dimmer tie in with the interface module.

it shouldnt but the issue is the module ties into the GM lan wire. The GM lan is the data connection that the BCM uses to tell the car everything. its probably just a quality issue where one part is slightly off giving the bcm something it doesnt like

Alpine X008U in 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Does anyone have personal experience installing the Alpine X008U in the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt LT? It says it's 2DIN. I added it to my Crutchfield cart. It produced a red error message saying, "*This item is NOT recommended for your vehicle."

I chatted with the customer service rep. He said that although the X008U is 2DIN, the faceplate is slightly larger than typical 2DIN (I think).

Anyone?

please guys help..

Okay guys I thank you so much in advance for reading this and hopefully helping me solve the last step.
Firstly, i have a 07 ss/sc with the pioneer sound system. Installing a new pioneer radio model AVH-X1600DVD
Was having problems. Loooong story anyway i take it best buy today. $213.00 for new harness and install..tough luck. Anyway on with it

Final Problem is the best buy dude gave me the harness he couldnt figure out why my speakers wont work. Its the Scosche GM13SR. Its not On Star supported. So yeah now radio goes on and no sound

Questions:
1. What are the chances the amp that powers my speakers is bad..?
2. Do I just need to wire the acc to the fuse box like i read and still dont completley understand. Sorry never done that.
3. Sell The cobalt and buy a 08? XD

Any help guys please ive read every single thread on the site and how to's..cut me stack please the best buy dude couldnt even do it and its his job. (My install was refunded lol)

Thank You!!
Brendan Smith
07 SS/SC Owner as of 7/24/14

You Know what..if you look at the 3rd link a little more..i think its the third lol. The stock harness which has my pink wires on it, turns into on the scosche the purple and green speaker wires. Not sure of it matters or not.
