I've been reading a lot about the wiring of the car I have a 05 ss, so what I've come up with is I don't need the stoc radio everything should still work(except chimes), I guess what I need is, is there a way to turn on the stock amp and tap the tablets audio jack into the spakers, I was thinking about splicing in rca end links and running those straight through to the tablets headphone jack.

Quick question here. From what I'm reading I can replace my hu with an aftermarket one and not have to buy the expensive module harness and still keep all of my functions of the driver info stuff in the dash and not get any other annoying bells chimes or dings from not javing the lan harness right?

 

yes in 07+ balts the chimes are played thru the drivers front speaker via the radio so removing the radio removes the chimes. the expensive harness does a few things but recreating those chimes is one of them. I do recommend to go with the metra brand harness thou to save any unforeseen issues of a harness pinned wrong.

 

Alright guys, my B/f has tried to read thru some of this, made multiple phone calls. But can't seem to get a strait answer locally. My car is an 06 with the Pioneer, OnStar, XM, and steering wheel controls. He has also told me the door chimes and what not do not come from the speakers, but from somewhere in the dash. We would like to retain everything if possible. Could someone be kind enough to list the parts needed to make this install happen before he looses his mind?

to retain onstar and basic install parts u would need

a 99-3303 kit, quantity two SP-2003 speakers, a 95-3302 kit, and a 40-GM10 antenna adapter

So if we decide to ditch the onstar, what else could we use? and there is no way to use the factory xm antenna?

ya onstar is totally not worth the work in our cars. if u dont want it then ud need the last 2 (the kit and antenna adapter) and the 70-2103 harness

oh and the stock antenna might work but it requires modification. i think someone on here posted a how to and was using a pioneer as well... u may also have to buy a longer pbus cable

 

Alright, so that harness works with the pioneer correct? Because if its only gonna be like 30 bucks to put it in, I'll just buy the pioneer xm thing and call it a day! Thanks SOOOOOOO MUCH

Got a question for all you car audio gurus.

I'm finalizing the purchase on a 2006 Cobalt SS later this week. I love the car, however the sound system leaves much to be desired. It comes with the Pioneer upgraded sound system. And as you are all aware of, its tax season. I want to take the first steps towards upgrading my sound system, starting with the head unit.

I was planning on installing the Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD, however after reading through all the related threads I could find, I'm kind of nervous. Now, I've installed head units on my three previous cars (1998 Dodge Avenger, 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST, 1994 Honda Accord EX-L), but its never been as complicated as this.

I want to start with the head unit, then replace the stock subwoofer, while still using the stock amp (if possible). Later on I would like to add a set of component speakers up front and coaxial speakers in the back and power all 4 of those plus the subwoofer off a 5-channel amplifier. Although I wouldn't replace the speakers and amplifier for a few months after that. Is this possible? What will I need to do when I decide to replace the speakers and add an aftermarket amplifier?

From what I've read I'm going to need a few things to install the head unit. I'm going to need a double DIN dash kit, the PAC wiring harness, the PAC harness to keep the steering wheel controls and an antenna adapter. Anything else I missed? What do I need to replace the subwoofer?

EDIT: I don't believe it has Onstar, but if it does I won't care about losing it.

If you want to elaborate on the answer I wouldn't mind. I'm the type of guy who needs to see everything laid out before it starts to sink in so sometimes a brief explanation doesn't do much.

with an 06 ss i would suggest the metra harness over the pac one. also u forgot the antenna adapter if u plan on getting am/fm radio

replacing the sub is fine id look into the shallow kenwood or rockford fosgate p3 BUT you will want the aftermarket amp with it. so you can either do radio first then everything else second or radio first sub and 5 chan second and once u get the speakers install the remaining 4 channels in the 5 channel amp

sorry dont have time to read thru 16 pages.... so my question is i have a 08 sport onstar xm with pioneer... i installed a jvc headunit and when i have it on for long the sub cuts out.... am i overheating the amp from the added wattage in the aftermarket head unit or is my connection just bad? I didnt hardwire the remote lead to anything just made it contact the red wire lead as best i could when i installed it.... any ideas? and if i need to connect the remote lead properly what would be the best way to do it?

id say the sub is blown... sub and rear 6X9s are on the same channel and amp powers all the speakers so not an amp problem

 

nope sub is not blown when i hook my factory hu up.... maybe the 6x9 cut out also.... not sure
