And to be quite honest. You are 100% correct!

Will I see any gains from an intake? Some would debate yes, some would debate no.
GM had two thoughts in producing and making those intakes. Max air flow, plus a way to quiet in the intake (as they do w/ the airbox for all vehicles).

The only huge benefits from the intake change/modification I can possibly see are a slight reduction in weight (if you'd even call it that, fwd, you need the front end weight), and a slightly easier path for air to take in the intake process. The louder intake sound means nothing to me (unless it was a turbo, then YES!). Who know's, I might just end up getting a 3" piece to replace the small elbow if all doesn't go as planned.

__________________________________________________ _________________________________________

Already done;
1) 3.0" pulley
2) 42# Injectors
3) GM Stage 2 PCM

So far I've gotten the following parts in;
1) CAI (non name brand, looks good, came w/ instructions to clear air/fuel maps to keep CEL from showing)
2) Pace Setter Header (I need to get paint stripper, and ceramic paint to redo this, then installed)
3) SRS Cat Back, Resonated, 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust (pretty good quality, will probably rust really quick though, no mention of stainless steel or what meterial it was made from).
4) DC Strut Tower Brace
5) Ingell's Stiffy Torque Dampner
6) ACT Lightweight Flywheel
7) ACT 6 Puck Ceramic Sprung Clutch
8) Exedy Pressure Plate (waiting on arrival)

Parts left to order;
1) Front/Rear Poly or Solid Engine Mounts (will order shortly, maybe from ZZP)
2) Heat Exchanger Pump (will order shortly from ZZP)
3) 2 Pass Intercooler Plate (will order shortly from ZZP)

Down the road;
1) 2.8" pulley
2) 60# Siemens Injectors
3) AIS Methanol Injection Kit
4) Tune
5) Springs (not sure what brand lowering springs)
6) All body imperfections fixed
7) All of the interior in stock condition (shift boots peeling, threading on the shifter knob leather is coming apart, console trim is scratched up a little and peeling)

And it should still be safe enough for daily driving. I'd estimate I might see numbers around 260 fwhp / 230 fwtq (in a perfect world, on a dyno). This is all the more modifications the car will see in my ownership.

Thanks!

The other project build is on another forum board. WAY more involved than bolt ons for this Cobalt and a Tune. That project build is for another Chevy, and I'm trying in the vicinity of 500 rwhp and around 600 rwtq on a 4.3 build. Mild built engine, built trans, mod 8.5" rear end, methanol, upgraded fuel system from pump to injectors, converted obdII and mpfi, blah blah blah. Like I said, if it's done in time, it'll be at KC2K13 for some play time! Won't be the fastest by a long shot, but I'll be having fun none the less!

My Boosted 94 Dime, mild build, NOT built (just to clarify).

disturbing v6, he's building a 9 second 4.3 bowtie block s10. His last one was a modified 4.3 block and ran mid/low 10's on single shot. His new engine will be 2 stage nitrous, not sure what he's looking at power wise, but his last mod motor was over 600 rwtq before it left us. His new intake setup is using a 105mm intake/throttle body, 3mm larger than the FAST 102mm intake. It's a BEAST, check it out!

Exhaust is on, it's a little quieter than the "fart" can alone that was on it. Except when the rear baffle piece is removed, then it's retarded loud. Baffle will stay in, except for when I have it dyno tuned down the road.

Make note! For those of you who are going to take the route I did with the inexpensive CAI. It looks alright?! Not the best in the world. The boot is pretty cheap and hard to maneuver. I'm not even sure how the bracket part is supposed to work, I think it was a hair off. Installed it the best I could, reset the ecm. But not gonna lie, looks like little 12yr old Jose was left alone at the factory welding away.

Everything else is good otherwise. Ingles torque dampner went on pretty smoothly, still need to do solid mounts.

150 miles since CAI install. Reset ECM, and cleaned the MAF upon modification. Cars running good considering it needs a clutch! As well no CEL's thrown at this time.

Shortly after getting it.

Next day, I started getting all the service work done.

Will post more pix later. Kept the old intake system, even after the CAI mod. Old exhaust is going to scrap pile. Still need to do the header.

Heath Exchanger pump replaced! And working! Duel pass intercooler plate done, 2 coils reversed and reinstalled. No leaks, known yet. Threw 9 codes on first startup, redid everything, checked for leaks internally in the intake, nothing. Cleaned all surfaces/gaskets/throttle body/map sensor, put it all back together, cleared codes, run'n like a raped ape!

Once all the mods are done, and new clutch installed, I'll do a dyno run and throw up some numbers, maybe have it tuned if it's got room for adjustment.

Months past, no lean codes. But I have gotten an occasional "Bank 1, Rich" I think the code is P0172. But I believe a 2.9" pulley should clear this up from the Stage 2 3.1".

OTTP Heat Exchanger
Tune

Need to get back to finishing the other toy.

"Rotated Mounts" not sure what you're speaking about?! I have poly mount inserts I'll be doing. I'm guessing this is what you're referring to?

I was just doing these mods to make the daily driver a bit more fun! I'm giving the Lancer to my mom, her car's crapping out on her.

The mods I'm doing to the Cobalt are just to get a little more pep out of it, an make it more fun. I don't want to get to much more involved with it because I have a more intensive job at the moment I'm about to finish.

94 S10, modified 4.3/PeformaBuilt Stage 2 4L60E/8.5" rear end w/ 3.73's/full break upgrade/Methanol/custom shorty stainless headers w/ remote mount turbo (BW S300SX 66mm T4 .88AR). Just need to finish hooking up the waste gate controller, then start buttoning up the front end and getting the trans/oil/coolant lines all hooked up.

Need to meet up with my friend and get some header wrap from him to finish that small section of the hot side.

This.

Not to mention Time Attack also.

I've tested many intakes, and the stock intake with high flow filter worked best.

If you are going to get an intake though, look into ZZP's 3" intake. It's very high quality, & a good price.

Rotates the trans correctly in line with axles, etc to eliminate wheel hop. Polys will help, but it's definitely gonna vibrate more.

Do some research on them, poly mounts suck and vibes will be bad. Powell/OTTP/ZZP/TTR all make rotated mounts that work great.

I'm aware the Poly's will cause some vibrations. I'm not to worried about his (I haven't ditched the balancer).

The 2.75" ebay intake seems to work well, just needs to be tuned for it. Seems to think it's getting more air than it actually is. Once I get all the parts on, an I have it dyno tuned. I'll throw up a dyno sheet w/ the results.

I'm NOT going to the "Neutral Balance Shafts" from ZZP nor OTTP.

your build is no where near the point where you should/could even consider NBS.

Rotated mounts will blow 'poly' filled mounts away. Please consider them.

I suppose I'll look into it. It's just a lightly modded daily an if this helps prolong the life of the components then I'll look into it.

Also, after a 3rd time of driving the car in the rain. I've now thrown CEL's each f*cking time! So I'm just going back to the stock intake w/ a K&N filter. It's not often I do this, but Hockeyman, you seem to be right on this. I'd like NOT to have my car acting up just because of rain, an I didn't seem to notice much from the intake at all.

That's because the stocker flows just fine. When the kiddies hear the louder blower whine, they think they gained mad horsepower.

My car has never run better than it has since I went back to the stock intake, modified airbox, and K&N direct oem replacement filter.
