Removing rattlecan paint from M62

Wanting to get some more experienced advice from you guys as to whether or not I can just tape off the crucial parts of the M62 blower and use Rustoleum Aircraft Remover with a wire brush to get off a layer of blue can paint and a layer of clear coat?? Ive been told to have it sandblasted back to "new" looking but there have been so many warnings that make me scared to either attempt this or have a professional at a shop attempt this.

I'm not looking to do anything fancy, I just don't want a blue blower and would prefer for it to look as "new" as possible before I throw it in.

Aircraft remover does a decent job at removing paint for sure

Use lacquer thinner on a rag and wipe it off

Regular ol paint thinner doesn't seem to be working very well. Gonna try some of the aircraft remover stuff here next. If that doesn't work a million times better than the thinner, I'm not sure what else to try. I have all the ports and stuff sealed off really really well with cardboard and duct tape. Any other suggestions?

Did you try the aircraft thinner yet? And yeah a wirebrush and toothbrush will definately help. Its tough to remove paint from such porous metals but if that dont work id suggest sandblasting :/

This ^^ is the stuff I tried after my OP with the paint thinner and it seems to be working. Gonna take quite some time and a wee bit of patience to get this done carefully but SOOO worth it to not have an ugly scratched blue blower lol. Just gonna have to repaint it once I'm done.

If it's on there really well just give it a light sanding and spray VHT aluminum over it

Cover all the openings and pulleys and get someone to carefully sandblast it. Sandblasted mine and it looks better than new

The only person I know with a sandblaster and would trust, says he won't do it because of the risk of getting ANYthing inside of the thing and screwing me over. That was my first avenue for bringing this thing back to life. I have used an entire can of aircraft remover and damn near 90% of the blue is off. Just a faded hue of blue left over most the entire thing and some thicker spots in the crevices i'll get to later with a Q-tip. Only thing is it seems that even when fully cleaned, this thing still has a few knicks and blemishes in it that will bug the crap out of me if not painted over or hidden in some way. Hence why I'm leaning towards taping the f*** out of it and doing a couple light coats of high wheel coat paint/clear or paying someone to dismantle and powdercoat it.

Once u get that car moving i can sandblast it for you. I've got a cabinet and know how to tape the sensitive areas of the blower. Otherwise just paint it a little bit. The textured aluminum is tough to get into the recesses. wire brush will help but may leave the finish looking brighter in some spots than others

Yea Beck I'm FULLY impressed by the look of everything all CLEAN! And, I'm a chick so I especially appreciate everything not looking dirty or 'old'. I would love to have a lot of it cleaned up but it's all getting put on in the next couple weeks as to get the thing running again. Come that time, I'll be needing to find a way to get it to Trev's so he can tune it. I'll have to make a trip of it maybe and come have you clean some stuff up nice n shiny :-)

Yea the one full can of aircraft remover got most of it off. Trying to decide whether to buy another can to get the tiny spots on the crevices clean or if there's something cheaper that will suffice to finish the job. Right now with this project, every little $8 helps lol

Should have bought the liquid version. Better bang for the buck.

Well, I sent my fiance to the store for the stuff so I got what I got mainly for that reason. I'll look into getting some though, since I still need more to get ALL the remaining paint off before re-paint.
