Oh well.
Well I was referring to your little dig at 2.4L Cobalt owners and "uplevel Gramma's Cobalt". Not everyone thinks their Cobalt is the ****.

Most of the people on this site have only seen pics of Z28's or Chevelles with 396's under the hoods, let alone ever DRIVEN one... I am old enough where my parents actually had muscle cars.
It's kinda funny you mention 396 SS chevelle's , they would have been the 2.4 ss cobalts to the 454 ls6 ss chevelle drivers back then . My dad's first car was a 70 chevelle 454 ls6 car , and i cant imaging him being 17 and pulling up to a light and thinking oh its a 396 non SS poser behind me lol, no he woulda said nice car. Back then he said that everyone knew cars well enought to know what people had , atleast people who were into cars .

Ive driven my share of muscle cars , hell my first car was a 427 nova SS and i'm only 30 . I could talk about the 2 hour drive in a 66 427 corvette sidepipe car of my brothers , or almost hiting the wall with my dad's 502/with 100 shot nitrous 70 chevelle SS after power shifting 2nd , or running 11.60's just speed shifting .

Those 60-72 muscle cars have a certain place in histroy that cant be relived , the new corvette's and camaro's have horsepower and are fast but my wife could hop in one and drive it in comfort , she got my nova about 15 miles down the road and pulled over and said ok you can drive now lol.

Our time won't be relived either, I hope. We have failed our parents who owned those muscle cars. They could live with their V8 monster motors being beated by a 4-cylinder engine, but they wouldn't tolerate the way we treat one another. They had some pride. We talk trash and bitch about the 100 reasons we had a bad race when really we just win or get beat. Where's the respect?

When you pump up your Cobalt's 4-cylinder engine, you expect someone to hear or see you and think "damn he did some good work," but all we get is ****-talking.

Until we learn to respect our fellow tuners—be they muscle cars, trucks, or golf carts—we will not get the respect we deserve for our investment into our own cars.

Exactly , my dad was 18 in 1970 and he was a chevy "NUT", but he wouldn't ever talk bad about any of the old cars back then , to him there were chevy guy's and non-chevy guy's thats about it, he would talk about some of the nice mopars and ford's he seen over the years even thought he is die hard GM . He would also tell stories about working at the local sunoco station and the owner would let him and his buddies work on their cars after close till all hours of the night , and then go out and do some racing. Things were settled quickly , if someone said they had a faster car or thought they could take someone, it was throw some money down and let's go, win or lose it was settled no excuses.

Older guys would really be disapointed lookin at "chevy guys " fighting with each other over emblems on a cobalt , but then again the internet has turned some people into disrespectful ******** that can type about anything they want to someone and don't have to face the consequences of what someone might do to them if it was said face to face . My dad won his fair share of races , but he has told me of some sleeper 396 nova's that got him one night , he didnt make excuses , he bought a set of slicks , cause those nova's could really squat and go 8).

I'm glad my dad stays away from computers as much as possible cause this kinda bickering would really leave him wondering whats going on nowadays .

ah, i see what you meant... jeez, i didn't mean it that way... i used to have a 2.2L BASE Cobalt so definitely i shouldn't be talking **** about grammas car. No, what I meant was to give folks something in between a full blown SS/SC and the more, jeez how do i say this without sounding like a condescending schmuck?, you know, the tamer, more mundane models... was that condescending? I mean an intermediate performance model would be ok... Chevy sold V6 and RS 5.0L Camaros by the thousands in their heyday... trade a little performance and a little handling for a more affordable sticker... I dunno, i'm not a marketing guru.

i didn't mean to insult the 2.4L folks, or even the folks driving the base cars. i didn't realize it came out like that.

Oops. Sorry bout that.

agree, Z24 wouldnt help at all, cus its not a cavalier, I have a Z24, cavalier

also agree, the 454 was king!

it's not that im saying it sucks they can't call it a Z24, it wouldn't help the cobalt name if they did. You already got people calling cobalts the new cavaliers, but they aren't and then if you make a cobalt Z24 it will help promote that negative stereotype, like you said.

Although I suport the Cobalt 24L SS and Malibu SS--this probably isn't a bad idea by GM.

Even though the 2.4L SS is tops in its class--or damn close, even though it can take some others SS cars in a race (80's Monte Carlo SS, 454SS, many 60's SS cars)---its confusing for too many members of the genral public to have two SS Cobalts.

Everytine I tell peopl there are 2 SS's they look at me funny! I don't even bother telling them there were 3,4,5 SS models of some 60's era SS cars.

RS or worst case, rename it sport. And then add diret-injection toget that 2.4L to 200hp.

that would be nice, a 200 hp N/A but then whats the SC for, its rated at only 5 hp more, unless they bump that up to like 230 or something like that with a new SC or turbo.

Do you guys really think that if GM does eliminate the SS badging from the 2.4. That there is a good possability that it will be worth some money due to being a rare breed??

you obvioulsy misunderstand my post. I was talking about economy cars---I never said CHEAP cars.--

I was refering to newer economy cars anyhow---not old ones. We are aftera ll talkinga bout the Cobalt--not some VW Thing!

They (new economy cars) are all virtually identical to eachother, have very limited powertrain options (if ANY) and are produced in huge qauntiies. Theses three things do not mean big money down the road.

well, yeah, i was just being an ass, but i would point out that the mustang and camaro are very good examples of that. they didn't get any power for YEARS after they went into production.

And every other car you listed can be FOUND FOR FREE!!! Sometimes running.

Where did I say anyting about power increasees??

Anyohw your wrong on that.....ok the Mustang was kinda weak the first 2 or so years but not the Camaro or Firebird. You could ge t a 396 SS first year of production and the underrated 302 Z/28. So they had power right off the bat.

now, now we don't have resort to name calling....just yet

I have to call you out oin the model T though. They made millions of them and were touted as the car everyman could afford, which was true. They were cheap to build and to sell.
