06 Suby TR Feedback
Negative on that factor. Not sure on the 06's but the 07s have slightly more hp and are much lighter. Plus they have zero traction issues like the balt does. I've driving my SC and my husbands WRX TR and his feels much faster than mine. Yes mine does feel fast, but it doesn't throw you to the seat like the WRX does. My husband raced an 05 SS/SC with a few mods and he said it was a close race, but the WRX was still a bit a head of him....so depending on the mods, the SC could beat the WRX but stock for stock, the WRX would win.
stock for stock, the wrx and cobalt are close from a dig, the ss.sc will catch it in the end. No doubt. With my mods, Ill take a stock wrx by like 10 cars, lol from 40mph, and unless ou have a bigger turbo, I dont think you havea chance from a roll.
I dont know about how the turbo in the TR responds compared to the 2.0L wrx, i had a 04 wrx and the turbo lag was horrible. But with the 2.5 wrx is probally alot better and less lag. But i know my 96L with JDM WRX swap w/411 gears will stomp my cobalt. Subarus are great cars, they grip an go. i wish the cobalt was AWD then it would be no contest. These two cars are not in the same class though, so you really cant compare all that much.
The AWD will give the Scooby an edge in a dig race... but the SS/SC shouldn't have a problem keeping up from a roll. Overall the WRX is a very nice car... but they still cost a few grand too much.
Negatory

You refer to your husband, and you forget that one could have had a bad driver. I don't think that is a reliable source. Two good drivers in a WRX TR and a SS/SC, the ss/sc would have that slighlt lead on it. And with AWD the tractions problems should be low to null, at least no where near as bad as the SS/SC's traction issues. And 'throwing you in your seat' isn't the greatest of comparisons. A car with instant traction from a dig vs a car with little traction from a dig, the one with traction would throw you back because it takes off and grips better.
Stock for stock it's a drivers race. The WRX TR is a mid to low 14 second car, just like the Cobalt. I would be curious as to which is faster between a Stage 2 Cobalt and Stage 2 WRX. Here's an idea, why doesn't someone race and post up some footage and time slips?

There's a member on this site that owns an 06-07 WRX TR that put down a 13.7 bone stock 1/4 mile. I have yet to see a SS/SC put that down in stock form. I love the SS/SC, but if the TR owner knows how to lauch his AWD, then from a dig it's a win for the TR. From a roll is another story, though...

Exactly. AWD cars your risk your clutch poopin out on ya because of SUCH an aggressive launch...are the wrx trannies any good or are they the ones that are poopy?

I think the SS/SC and TR for the most part is a drivers race. I've raced one from a dig and a roll and I won both, but the dig was damn close. The roll was not. The guy KILLED me off the launch but once we got to second I pulled hard! Those TRs are slick though and I'd watch out for them on the street, you better be able to drive if you race one from a dig.
From experience of having friend with WRXs (bugeyes, and not) their trannies have gotten better. The bugeye WRXs had pretty weak clutches, but they seemed to have fixed it. I wouldn't do real high RPM clutch drops, but you can launch aggressively with the newer models.

stock for stock...cobalt will take it up top on the highway...but everywhere else should lose or be close to the wrx. WRX's are easy to mod just like the balt. But turbo'd cars are much easier to squeeze power from. Just by going el' cheapo mods like ecu tune + fuel pump + injectors + sti turbo you can get the wrx into the 12's easily and thats just using an oem sti turbo....aftermarket 20G 30R and it'll be a whole different car.
But both cars are easy to mod. Both cars can get ecu tune and boost upgrades in no time.
In the end...pick ur poison...either way both are still boosted...hhahhaha
Regarding clutches on wrx's....yes they are weak compared to the STi. But you have to understand that most ppl that complain bout busted wrx trannys are the ones that abuse it and trash the tranny's doing clutch dumps at 5k etc. I'm not denying they are weak. I have some grinding and whining going on in my 04 wrx tranny, but I take it easy and dun launch it to **** and its still holding out for me after a few years and over 110,000Km's on STOCK CLUTCH! with over 275awhp on a low ass reading heartbreaker "Clayton Dyno''!

I was under the impression that the WRX's have the same tranny through out all year models, can you confirm a transmission change?
in most cases people with new cars get a cbe system and air filter and jus take it from there...but wat ive heard is that with the 06 wrx engine management would be a considerable first mod for the car example being the tuning mapping chip....wat do u all think??
Get a Cobb AP or go Utech. Better yet, just go Cobb Stage 2. You can't beat an AP for $700, unless you go with the free ware tuning available, Engenuity. $90 for a cable plus a lap top and you can tune to your hearts content.
With the TR i was thinkin down the line after ive acquired the cobb ap and wat not of getting a vf39 from the sti and and maybe the sti tmic...would this be a good combo for the tr or should i invest into jus looking for a 20g and dumping all my money into that?...i was thinkin in terms of budget and still trying to be fast LOL
