Tried to do a google search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone here replaced a rocker panel yet? My 08 had some paint blistering and finally a small perforation. Underside I can see its getting pretty bad rocker area. I was talking to an old timer body man a few days back and he swears by the slip on kind due to maintaining a good bit of structural integrity . If I went that route I would cut out as much of the rusted panel as possible and use POR 15, or spray on bumper coating or both to treat the now exposed cavity area before bonding the new covers on. I would treat those too on the inside.

Sounds alot less invasive then cutting and removing/welding in new panels, though that clearly is the better way I suppose. I think if I'm aggressive on the coating I should be ok. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

 

In for responses as I'd like to pull the rocker covers and POR15 under them.

Not surehavent taken off the cover yet, more of preventing any issues as I plan on driving this car for another at least 5yrs

 

Considering doing mine as well. Saw a guy on you tube do a slip on to the cab corner of his old pickup using structural adhesive. Hate to see my car go to rot like this...

I would love to see mine but I would be afraid of what they look like. Mine hasn't been driven in the snow since I owned it in early 12. But a woman owned it before me it's 1st 3 yrs and it came from Ohio. So far they look ok.
Many car repair places have been bonding panels on for years as it saves time and money.

 

It's probably twice as bad underneath and inside.

Rust is like cancer. Even if you do cut out all the rust. Cutting, grinding and welding all introduce hot spots that could rust again.

A proper repair will cost nearly the same as the car is valued.
