Cams and Warranty
I just got my stage 2 cams. I was wondering if i install them it will void the warranty but a buddy of mine said it's a law that they would have to prove that that part caused the problem if i would take it to the dealer to get fixed? Is this possibly true.?
(Nick i'm not doubting your wrong just seeing what others say)

yup its a law,
but the question is, do you have the money, the time, and the want, to fight a court battle?
because i doubt there are many dealerships who would even look at you with aftermarket internal work.

Ive always gone with the train of though " if you have to ask, then yes"
But seriously cams? uhh yea theyll def. try to void warrenty. Comeon, if they try an void for intakes and exhaust, internals are definatley a no-no.

Yeah but it shouldn't void the warranty unless the cams caused a problem that they would need to fix. Most likely the cams wont cause a problem at all but im just like trying to figure this out if they could do it and what not

you can stand there and spout that law all day if you want, but the dealership is 99% sure to tell you to go **** yourself, expecting powertrain warranty with an aftermarket cam.
so as i said, I hope you have the time and money to afford a lawyer and a court battle, because saying "magnusson moss" to the dealership, doesnt work like saying "abracadabra"

You're looking at this WAY too simplistically. There are other factors involved.
1) You had to take apart the motor to shove the cams in there in the first place. That right there opens up a whole WORLD of opportunity to blame improper assembly on your part.
2) There's the tuning. You've altered the factory tune and therefore they can look at the fact that you're running the car outside the parameters that GM designed it for.
3) The LAST thing they'd need to do is blame the cams themselves. By simply doing the work and tuning to install the cams and run them, you've given them MORE than enough to deny any sort of powertrain warranty claim.
If you were to run in crying "Magnuson Moss", I don't think even Johnny Cochorane raised from the dead and blessed by Jesus himself would be able to win that case for you.
If warranty means that much to you - don't do major modifications to your car. Simple as that.

The cams most likely won't blow the motor, but the tune sure as hell could, If your motor blows they will check everything including tune. If you like your warranty don't do cams. Just bite the bullet and take a chance your motor won't blow.

the service manager i use would laugh at you and walk away and "go to lunch" til you left in your fit of rage b/c you took your head apart and now it broke....
yea, by all means im not telling you not to do the cam install, itd be sweet. but 99% of the service managers would laugh at you if you thought itd be covered under warrenty if something went wrong.
Yeah, putting in aftermarket cams is definately going to void any engine warranty. Transmission is probably ok, since even though you will have more power you won't be stressing the transmission too much. Anything engine related will definately be an instant void when they see those cams.
Unless you were screwed over by the dealer and bought it used so they "sold" you some sort of warranty, you are 100% incorrect.
The 05/early 06 warranty is as follows:
3 years/36k - Bumper to bumper
5 years/60k - Powertrain (engine and transmission)
So you're not even halfway into your powertrain warranty.

It's online. If it was purchased in 05, it has the 36k/60k. I know they retroactively honored the 36k/100k for some people who bought within like a month of the announcement - but that only applies if it was purchased in 06.
