fxxing rain...
hahahahahaaaahaha, touche. i will send you a blue and black k&n decal to tie it in with the rest of the car for you. i honestly think it may have some good results if a guy used various 3 inch bends and run the bottom half like yours. or order ottp(iirc) top half of thier 3 inch down to a similar setup like yours.

I've been running my 3" RAW intake for 4 years now, through rain, snow, everything. Stock MAF, never replaced, but cleaned about once a year. Besides being a complete douche to tune for, never had any issues with driveability in the rain. I'm not running any hydroshield, just a K&N slightly oiled filter.
Maybe these issues are only with 2.75" intakes or the MAF position?

When I get mine running I'll have to post feedback once I take it through the wet. Got an AEM with hydroshield.

I modified my box this way so I would be able to run the OEM replacement K&N E-0777 filter. The K&N filter installs the same as the OEM filter, so you need the bottom of the box to hold it on. The amount of holes, and size of the holes I drilled is about the equivalent of leaving the bottom of the box off. Whine is nice and loud, the filter is still protected, and you have nice composite material (rubber and plastic vs. aluminum) keeping the intake air charge insulated from the heat.
Not to mention I flowed a good deal more air with this setup vs. my old injen intake.
35.03 lbs/min modified airbox
33.95 lbs/min injen

You have got me considering doing this to my car now.
Could you feel a power difference vs the stock box? I am just kind of nervous about running with a K&N airfilter after seeing filtration tests on them
Wow, for someone that has never seen a Cobalt LSJ airbox that could easily be passed of as something that came from the factory. Very cleanly done. I have seen some that look like someone used a sawz all to the airbox.

The Ion RLs have a different air box, and are supposedly a lot less restrictive than the LSJ SS. So I am not for sure if this will make much improvement for me. Having supercharger whine will be nice at least.

well, i bought a stock airbox last night. came with a brand new maf sensor, all for $40!
so i just gotta fork out another 40 for a k&n filter and put all the holes in and bam.

I wonder if a K&N precharger will help some more at filtering dirt out?

i don't think its gonna whine nearly as hard as i want it to, but better safe than sorry
and the reason i bought this car was because of the blower whine...
we'll find out tomorrow when i install it, i'm bout to run to autozone to pick up the filter, and yesterday i drilled all the holes i could into the bottom of the filter case
you gotta take out the fender well to do this right?
