I took the whole fender thing out. Yolo.
Took about 1 and a half hours...
This is why i was having issues...
fxcking injen... Smh

And this is the finished install of the stock intake followed 07's orders and drilled a bunch of holes pretty much like he has on his. Trew in a new k&n e-0777.
The car runs better since theres no unregistered air coming through a hole in the intake... Thats good.
Aaand 80% of my blower whine is gone
thats just not gonna work... So i think its time to get a zzp 3"

It's a deeper whine, less high pitched, but still very loud.
Save for mods that actually make power.
Adjustment, and better install would have prevented that.
Injen provides a little rubber strip to line the hole in the fender with to prevent anything like this from happening.
Wow, for someone that has never seen a Cobalt LSJ airbox that could easily be passed of as something that came from the factory. Very cleanly done. I have seen some that look like someone used a sawz all to the airbox.
You have got me considering doing this to my car now.
The Ion RLs have a different air box, and are supposedly a lot less restrictive than the LSJ SS. So I am not for sure if this will make much improvement for me. Having supercharger whine will be nice at least.
Could you feel a power difference vs the stock box? I am just kind of nervous about running with a K&N airfilter after seeing filtration tests on them

Redline has the larger airbox from the trail blazer.
The K&N is fine, but I installed a pre filter to keep the bugs out of the pleats.
Yes, but I don't drive my car in the winter.
I have driven it through heavy heavy rain though w/o issue.

well seems like staged and i are gonna be at a disagreement, but last night i had my injen, which whines like crazy, and with a modified box just like staged with the same filter, i can barely hear it until i'm flooring it, and then its about 70-80% less than with the injen.

I can hear blower whine.... can you?? Bah haha
The Injen intake is higher pitched due to the harmonics from the metal pipe. A modified airbox has a deeper whine, lower pitch, but can def still be heard.
I'll take more flow over more whine any day though, lol.

Maybe you need to open up the holes more. I forget the dimensions off the holes in my box.
I believe all the bottom holes are 7/8" and the side holes are 1 1/4".
My RAW 3 inch rubbed off 2 fins on my PCM and I had to bend the lip on the from support to the fender to make sure it didn't rub. I have a piece of hard plastic between the coupler and fender opening since RAW didnt think it was necessary to put a longer bend on the upper piece lol
Oh and burner, a set of rotated mounts will keep the engine from moving and significantly reducing the rub if there is contact between the intake and the car. Unlike the stock mounts

thanks for the advice, but this intakes all beat up looking anyway, been tired of seeing it under the hood. so a nice black powdercoated 3" zzp will do the trick
plus more whine and maybe more power than before!
i am on the rotated mounts... engine still moves and bucks like a horse though

i had one for a while, i also had a ingalls dampener at one point. neither helped at all. all they did was keep my rotated mounts from stopping wheel hop

and...
i forgot to take before and after vids... fml. sorry guys. believe me though, the difference is night and day.
