GM to launch clearance incentives, dealers say

General Motors Corp. will begin an incentive program this weekend to help clear inventories of 2006 models, three dealers told Bloomberg News.

The “Red Tag” event might cut prices on many ’06 GM vehicles and runs Nov. 18-Jan. 2, Manpreet Wadan sales manager of Bill Pierre Chevrolet in Seattle, told Bloomberg. GM will also allow dealers to discount many 2007 vehicles by $500 or more, he said.

Wadan said the Corvette, Pontiac Solstice, GMC Sierra pickup, Saturn Sky and all Hummer, Cadillac and Saab models.

Phil Vilar, a sales manager for San Diego-based Seaside Buick Pontiac GMC, told Bloomberg some of the details haven’t been decided, such as the full range of models and the distribution of discounts.

John McDonald, a GM spokesman, declined to comment on the incentives.

this is so true, I been told, the more incentives and moneys knocked of in the end makes our resale worthless hell I paid 21,000 for my vibe when i sold it two years later I got 18,500 probly due to all the toyota in it and the favt that Gm goes not do incentives on the vibe with the exception of a 500.00 discount here and there

By the way it looks, GM dealers have the choice to discount certain vehicles and get most or all their money back from GM. For example, if an 06 Cobalt lists for 22,000 and the Dealership "red taged" it for 19,000, the dealership probably can get about 1000-1500 of that money back from GM so they wont lose as much profit.

I think thats reasonable, only 2.5k over 2 years...
the used cars marked is supported by new cars that depreciate in value. who the hell is going to buy a used 2005 cobalt with 24,000 miles on it when they can get a brand new 07 from the factory for only a couple thousand more?

Alright, it's the 18th but GM still hasn't shown any incentives on their website yet. Any more news on the Red Tag Event? Is there any chance that perhaps GM just isn't announcing or posting news about the Red Tag until monday? Any new information would be greatly appreciated.

We put out our "Red Tags" Friday afternoon for the weekend. It looks like some pretty good price drops are there.

It all depends on the dealer on what cars and what prices though. I don't think that all dealers have to do the red tag event thing.
