Cool Good news Bad news

Ok heres the good news. I got rid of my cavy and I was gonna get a cobalt ls sport. The dealer insisted I try for the SS. Why not lets try. woo hoo im approved and out the door yes the guy really had to drive my ss out the showroom door to the outside world. ahhhh only 12 miles so nice to have a brand spanking new car.

Iv had this car for 4 days. It now has 612 miles. lol I love this car iv been driving it all over town. I baby this thing like none other. Well the outside of it atleast I have gotten on the gas a few times but then again who cant when this car is so much fun. There is a road everyone drives on in tulsa and if anyone is from there you know about memorial. I meet up with a friend of mine that has a srt-4 and really to be honest we where a close match. if only I can get traction.

Ok heres the bad news. Today on my way to work im in a 2 lane turn lane. Im on the right side some jeep is on the left side. The light turns green we both start to make our turn. next thing I see is big jeep swinging into my lane. O **** I slam on my brakes and in order to avoid this ass I managed to put a nice 3 inch grind spot on my bumper lip. Along with that a nice id say about 8 inch chewing on the rim lip.

I was pissed I about knocked the guy out. He was scared to get outa his car when he saw me so mad. When the cops get there what do they see. They see a 20 year old kid with a brand new ss cobalt (That I do pay for on my own and work my damn ass off for). to make a long story short the cop let the guy go and told me theres nothing I can do.

So after I cool off I call the dealer. They really got me fired up again. For all those who are wondering the cost for ONE replacement ss rim is...................700 bucks! The dealer told me they would have to special order it from gm.

So now im stuck with my poor SS with a hurt paw and not enuff money to get her fixed. To bad my deductable is 1000.

Sorry for such a long first post.

P.S. I also have the supervisior who is over the officer who was at my incedent is calling me tomorrow.

i have had the same thing happen many times except i havent been hit yet *knock on wood*

as for the cop he should be taken out back and shot. reguardless of the car or the age of the driver the jeep is obviously at fault

best of luck in getting this resolved the right way

WHOA 1000 deductable? ouch...no wonder your able to afford it...lol...but good luck persuring this...i hope it gets handled. but honestly theres nothing that can be done. he didnt hit you so he wont be held liable. with things like that you have to actually let someone hit you in order to get something out of it unfortunately. its happened to way to many people that i know...

EDIT...wait a tick? did he hit you or not?

If he basically forced you off the road then he is most certainly at fault and liable, I don't see it any other way. That cop is smoking crack. What did the driver of the Jeep say to the cop when he got there? If he owned up to it then the cop could at least give him a ticket for reckless driving and fill out a report that you could use if you wanted to take the other driver to court.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, bro, I had someone back into my SS while sitting in their driveway last week, but luckily I have their insurance to pay for it. I'd at least consider taking the other driver to small claims. If they admitted to the cop that they crossed the lane or if you have a witness then you shouldn't have any problems. If they didn't feel at fault then why did they stop and wait for a cop? (you weren't holding them at gunpoint, were you?)

I hope everything works out for you, that really sucks.

When I get my cobalt, I will be driving like 15 mph everywhere. Except when there is nobody on the road... Then I must feel the SC!

Thanks for the replays guys. Cody I might take ya up on that offer. No I did not get his information cause I was thinking the cop would take care of it . But I do have his plate number and I am getting his address from my friend who happens to be a cop in my home town. Here is the funny thing the cop dident even ask the guy his side of the story.

There was a car with 4 old ladys that stopped to tell the story and the cop based everything off these 4 people. People need to learn how to use double turn lanes. The old ladys claimed he never whent into my lane. Heres the part where I made the cop mad (this was after he let them all go) I said to him this "O yea I just got a brand new car and decided why not hit that damn curb then randomly picked this poor guy to blame it on!" He wasent to happy to hear that remark but I wasnt very happy at all.

But im still waiting to see what happens and the second im done posting this im off to the body shop for them to look at my little scratch.

There goes my tint money lol.

Besides the fact that a SS/SC has a rare lug pattern who in there right mind would swap out the OE wheels for aftermarket ones?

Ok well here is an update. The supervisor call me back. He pretty much told me the same thing. Since the jeep did not really hit me and it was my action in trying to avoid him its not his fault. Something about how his insurance company would claim I over corrected. If we would have hit it would be another story. So I pretty much am stuck with the fixins outa my pocket.

I went to a body shop they told me about 300 bucks to fix the grind spot on the bumper lip. They said it was alot cause they would have to remove the lip, sand the scratches, repaint it, then put it back on. They even said something about how I could get my rim reconditioned at a shop somewhere in tulsa I might check that out.

Im trying to get some pictures up here for you guys to check out. These pics where taken with my digi cam. O yea and Iv already removed the riverside chevy stickers

you can find plenty of wheels w/ that lug pattern. one reason why people would swap out the stock wheels might be for weight. my 18's on my car only weigh 15lbs. my car came w/ stock 16's and they weighed 16lbs. does anyone know how much the stock 18's weigh on the SS?

It's a Cobalt SS not a Cavalier or a Civic the wheels are part of the SS image. Anyway

Those pictures make me pissed. Wheel repair can be done but where the material is gone it will remain gone. Plus it will be hard to re-finish the wheel too.

i'm sorry but the only cars in my book that are true SS's are camaro's, chevelle's, impala's, monte carlo's, and nova's. those cars define the SS image IMO.

that curb rash looks nasty man. i'm sure a rim shop will fix it though.

You should still get a lawyer and file a suit.

They should be liable because damage was caused due to their negligence. Don't listen to the police, or his insurance company, they are not lawyers, and only want you to pay out of your own pocket.

Legal standpoint:

In this circumstance: when they went into your lane, a reasonable person (them) would foresee it causing a problem for the people in that lane (you). Note the terms "reasonable person" as in the reasonable person clause, and "foresee" which obligates people to negligence.

Therefore: You did not foresee the event and appropriate action had to be taken. You are not responsible for the damage, and there is no contributory negligence.

Get a lawyer

Whats really funny is that the 4cyl S/C will walk most of the cars you listed. With the exception of the 98-02 Camaro SS, I have one of those too.

And please don't hijack with all of the tall tales that older cars ran 12's and 13's.
