HELP! weird issue with not starting...

Hey guys, i have a weird issue with my 06 cobalt ss/sc. as of lately when i get gas the car wont start afterwards unless i manually give it gas. and this only happens when i get gas, doesn't matter if i put in 10 bucks or fill it up, if i put any gas in it at all it wont start until i push the gas pedal down and i have to hold it down a little so that it idles and doesn't die for about 30 seconds to a minute, then its fine. i don't know if its related or not but the computer also tells me to check the gas cap on occasion (once or twice a month) and of course its on and fine, i even replaced the gas cap 2 times thinking maybe i got one that is not sealing correctly or something but no help. I have asked local mechanics and even the dealer and they cannot explain why the car wont start after getting gas, any ideas guys? thanks for the help!

Marshall

Hi Marshall,

Would you mind sending me a PM with your VIN? I’d like to investigate this a bit. Also, did the dealer attempt a fix at all or did you just ask for their opinion?

Thanks,
Laura

I found this when searching online about the purge solenoid,

The evap purge solenoid is sticking in the open position. This will cause the hard stars and the gas cap light, the computer uses the solenoids to hold fuel vapors in the tank and in the charcoal canister when the solenoid is stuck open the fuel vapors are allowed to be sucked into the engine this floods the engine and causes a hard start. The computer also sees this as a vapor leak on the fuel tank and will turn on the gas cap light and the check engine light.

I think this will fix my issue thank you guys! I'll post a reply to verify!

Hope it is the answer, $50 bones and an hour of your time or three trips to the dealer, $$$$$$, and "We haven't been able to duplicate the problem"

I know which one I would rather deal with

I have the same exact issue with my 06 SC! I did however find out that my gas tank is leaking so I'm thinking that the lack of pressure in my tank might be the issue or the solenoid..
