I'm going to look at and maybe buy a 2006 SS Wednesday

I am driving about an hour to a Chevy dealer to buy a 2006 Cobalt SS... Orange 2 door with the factory body kit and spoiler. I'm pretty car saavy so I think I could give the car a good look over, but my question for all of you experienced in Cobalt SS cars is....

[drumroll] .....

What are some known problems with Cobalt SS that I should keep an eye out for?

Thanks!

take a ride in my ss/sc .... you wont be dissapointed then. As for the original poster .... The SS/SC is a nice car. I bought my brand spanking new in May of 2007, and haven't had any problems since. Stock they are quick (of course the SS/TC is quicker stock vs. stock), but put the GM Stage 2 kit or OTTP Stage 1 kit and she will come alive. Suburst Orange Metallic is a great color choice by the way !!! Goodluck .... P.S. the heated leather seats are fantastic in the colder months and the supercharger whine will always put a smile on your face.

Whats an SS/SC compared to an SS/TC?

EDIT: Oh, turbocharged and supercharged.

Gotcha. And yeah, I wanted either Yellow or Orange.

Whats the SS/SC stock 1/4 mile and 0-60? I keep looking up numbers and the range I get is all over.

PLUS, a new TC is 25,000 and I am buying my Cobalt SS for 13,600. :-)

Hard to say averages, but the best stock time I saw in a ss/sc was either 14.0 or 14.1. Stock t/c has seen 13.5 so far.

get the SS/SC. Great car, great sound, plenty of venders for mods, and good community. You wont regret it.

All of the people offering to sell me their car is making me uneasy lol

I would buy your cars but the financing I secured requires that I buy from a franchised dealership.

Stock they run anywhere from a 14.0-14.4 with a good driver. Average usually is 14.6. 0-60 usually can be had in 5.9-6.1 sec. They are a very quick car .... and with GM Stage 2 and some minor bolt on's they can be a beast.

dude keep in mind that many people have had this car for 3-4 years already, and are just ready to move on. doesn't mean the car is bad. but lots of people have 05 cobalts, and 06 cobalts.

when we first seriously started thinking about buying a house, that's when i knew the cobalt would never get any faster than it was at that point

You can get on 08/09 SS/TC in the 16-19 range as well. Very low miles.

Depends on the driver, some have gone very low 14s stock, some very high 14s. A GM Stage2 car is good for high 13s with a driver mod, a good aftermarket stage kit will put you mid-lower 13s.

Most people in the TC are seeing mid 14s - high 13s stock, IIRC, there aren't any stage kits available YET, but a good custom tune will put them well into the 300s at the wheels.
