People who've ordered a cobalt SS - Come here!

Ok, well ive been approved by GMAC to get a cobalt ss without a cosigner and a decent APR as my credit is amazing somehow.. anyway Just wondering how you guys go about ordering a cobalt and not purchasing one off the lot. Did anyone just order it stright up off chevy.com? Let me know with some info guys. thanks

Congrats, I've got mine on order right now
Just talk to a sales guy at the dealer, and say you want to place an order from the factory. I don't think you can actually order anything from the chevy website, you can just configure it and then it will give you a list of nearby dealers.

I just went into the dealership and ordered my 2.4SS a few years ago. I went in, they sat me down, I told them what I wanted, and 2 months later, voila, it was mine.

did you get the approval in writing? Many times they will just tell you you're approved to get you down to the dealership. THen you get there, and they say something like "well, we can get you approved, but you have to leave a bigger down payment" or "your interest rate is higher". Also get the value of your trade in writing, and ask for some lube!

So your trading in your turbo 'balt for a turbo 'balt? Why not just keep the sedan? Do a full on motor build, up the boost.....theres always more room to work on the suspension/brakes.....maybe change up the wheels....and it'll be like a whole new car.

Thats not the point.. im not trading in the turbo..car will be traded in, in the same condition as when i bought it. Im upgrading to a much nicer, more intended for what i want to do. WHen i bought my sedan, i wasnt into the "car scene" look what this site did to me The parts sold will be my downpayment. Most of it (suspension/exhaust) will be put on the new one.

At my dealer there was a $500 deposit you had to put down as well, which is no biggie. And you can still use all of the rebates and whatever too. Not sure about negotiating... I think the sales guys only get a smaller lump sum for a factory order, not a percentage commission so they might be less likely to take a hit on it. Not 100% on that though.
lol I've been wrong before though...

Haha lucky you. Well, the deposit is just in case you cancel your order for some reason. As long as you keep the order the money just goes toward you car anywho

I suggest you double check with your dealer about using the $4k cash adjustment with GMAC 0%financing. I contacted 3 different dealers asking that and I also had feedback on another forum from a salesman in Ontario. The answer from all was no.

Most places you get the money OR the low interest rate. Not both. Also, the rebates are right now. They might change when your car actually arrives. Some dealers want to do the deal when your car arrives and you might lose out on the 0% thing.

For me there was not much "real negotiation" more so idiots who didn't know what they were doing, but still they won't go down in price much if you order because they know you want it otherwise you would take one off the lot.

Rebates are the ones out at the time you take delivery, it's like rolling the dice.

As for financing I'm waiting until they tell me the car is being made because the approval is normally only good for 30 days and as you can see in my sig I ordered the car over 30 days ago and still won't get it for about another month assuming they are correct that it will be built sometime next week (so they say).

As far as trade-in's I'm no help because I will drive my current car until it's sold after I take delivery of the SS. I would rather sell it outright for what the dealer offered me than to trade it in only to see them make a huge profit. I put a car on consignment one time and the dealer sold it 4 days later for $4200 more than what I got out of the deal (the buyer didn't even test drive it) and have felt gut kicked about it ever since, and that was 16 years ago. It was a bad deal for me because the guy even talked me down on the price I was going to get, from $9k to $8800. I really didn't think the car would sell either nor did I want to sell it. LONG STORY though

I just built my car on Chevy.ca, printed the build summary, took it to the salesman and said, this is what i want, order it please. Then we checked over some things, (he didn't know the car had, ) and we both went to the order guy. Just less then 6 weeks later, it was in!!
