Replace Transmission
What all does the warranty cover on the transmission? I've got 5k miles left on the warranty and i'd like to get a new transmission on warranty (why not). Any ideas on how to break it the right way that it would be replaced on warranty?

It doesn't quite work that way. There actually has to be a major reason for it. You would have to do some major **** to **** that tranny up. They will see it as abuse and your done either way. Why do you want a new trans?

well, second slipping would be your clutch and i get the grind going into once in a while as well. Dunno if the syncros are that great or if they are that quick for reverse, but be slow and gentle and don't power it into reverse and you'll be fine. My new trans has only about 9-10k on it btw.
I got my trans replaced, but they dubbed it as abuse, so it wasn't under warranty even though i only had 9700 miles on the car and only stage 2, stage 3+ spec clutch and torque dampners. you can try to make a case with your reverse grinding, but i wouldn't do anything that could possibly blow your transmission and force you to replace it without warranty because GM is pretty strict on the abuse aspect.
(they tried to rip mine apart and fix it originally because it was cheaper, don't ever let them do that, it will never be the same. After 5 months $1000 of work into my trans and giving them my old non-g85 to swap parts into, and getting my car and bringing my car back to the dealer for problems multiple times we finally forced them to swap transmissions)

Second gear is slipping because you're beating the crap out of your clutch, and no matter what you do that won't be covered. The reverse grind should be covered if there is in fact a failure, so take it in and complain about that specifically. Leave the second gear slip out or you'll risk that they'll void your warranty for abuse.

wen i saw this thread i cracked up laughing... if you'd learn how to drive the clutch wouldn't be f'd up.. these clutchs are sensitive. as for the reverse take it in and have them look at it. Don't say anything about the clutch slipping.. they may just give you a new tranny anyway but don't count on it

Well this is my first manual car, well hell my first car period, i've dragged this car, and used this car to suffer my own foolish ideas.....erhegmmm anyways clutch, like brakepads and tires, are not covered under warranty unless its an insanely low amount of miles to indicate something wrong...otherwise than that just take it in, and get it fixed, they replaced quite a few parts on mine and when they reassembled it, it felt much better and tighter like new, but they fucked it up on the reassemble so its going back in for a fix it. dude, don't bother to get a new tranny, get it fixed, save up the money, and get a 6-speed LSD tranny.....
