True GM Performance

SORRY GUYS AND GALS, THIS IS A NOVEL...JUST TRYING TO STIR UP A DISCUSSION AND SEE IF YOU ALL CALL ME CRAZY FOR SAYING THIS

Okay guys...I just want to get one thing straight here...I see a lot of arguments about what's better between engines and what not...GM this...after market that...GM that...aftermarket this!!!! Yeah...I agree, GM built these cars to be tuners....what they didn't tell you/us(but did in a way) is if you want the most developed power, GO WITH THE 2.2L ENGINE. You might be asking yourself now....is this guy crazy....let me answer it for ya...Absolutely not! Look...the build book that is out is for a 2.2 L engine....makes no mention of the others...Fact or Fiction????? What has been the fastest cobalts we've seen yet?????? I can tell you 98 % of the ecotecs I have seen that are the fastest are the 2.2L engines....if you buy a car to tune or mod you are going to be spending money reguardless, they(The General) wants you to use their parts! If I am lying go ahead and call BS! Look at it this way...why not....do you think GM will waste their time coming out with a build book for the 2.0L or 2.4L when they know that these engines will be changing in the future!!!???? Seriously, we are running out of oil...and HELL NO i am not environmentally conscience...I drive a 5.3 litre V8 with plenty o tq. on tap! IF you are going to mod the hell out of your engine why not go with the 2.2L!!!!! More money in the short run to make fast, but developed power....now how many of you have seen a 2.0 litre with...yes with a supercharger....or a 2.4 litre with high output, run in the 6 second mark????? I can tell ya right now it hasn't been done yet from what I have seen! Not trying to start a fight...just trying to get your all's opinion and stir around those brain cells in those head of yours Really...do you think that a car company is going to shift their focus onto one car with three different engines when they are already developing and researching engines/ technologies that will replace these engines???? I think that if you are going for an @$$ load of mods...go for the 2.2 and buy the build book...have ya read it...the engine is cabale of 1000+ hp!!!!????

EDIT: I guess I went through Canada to get to Mexico from the US on this one...sorry y'all...all I am trying to say is that if you want to stick to GM performance and a possible 6 second car...obviously not street legal...go 2.2L...if you want aftermarket performance(the people that will put the time into the research) go for the 2.0L s/c or 2.4L non s/c!!!!

Build book was written before the 2.0L or 2.4L were on the market. The 2.2L has been out since like 2003 or thereabouts.

The 2.4L and 2.0L also come with beefed up internals that are part of the build book.

OK so I'll be the first to let the cat out of the bag, the 2.2 and 2.0 are the same basic engine. Section 1 of the build book is basically "How to turn your 2.2 into a 2.0."

they are all the same engine correct??? I could be wrong, obviously I am still learning...just different components...obviously the bore and stroke is larger on the 2.4...hints the larger displacement and needed higher compression!!???

The new build book does have stuff on the 2.0. They even built a 2.0 to 300hp at 8,000+ rpm. Now if you were to build the 2.2 to the hilt, it will produce more power, because of the larger displacment. I'm sure that some one will build the 2.4 to outperform the 2.2 eventually. The 2.0 and 2.4 are still fairly young motors, give them time.

oh don't worry...I am def. going to give them time, I am going to buy one this summer and most likely I will buy the highest displacement I can...to use to tq. from a v8 I love tq. and once you s/c higher displacement engines they typically produce mor tq. compared to hp where as lower displacements put out a higher hp to tq. ratio...but I guess I am still to new to this four banger thing....the reason I posted this thread was not only to stimulate everyone elses brain cells but to stimulate all of ours including myself!!! I have seen extended cab trucks with very few mods but have an after market s/c and intercooler run 13.xx's It will be hard for me to make the switch but I love the cobalts and all you owners for the dedication you have to make these things fast and I want in Let's smoke them srt4's and the other competitions...hell let's smoke v8's with a fo' banga!!!!

Thats what I was going to say!

2001 and thats just in North America. Saturn got it first here. The 2.4L is a gen 2 Ecotec as well, first year too. Clyinder heads are different and has the VVT. Probably flow pretty good.

GM likes to debore its S/C engines as of late, only reason I know of that the 2.0 even exists. I like the bigger dispalcement for S/C or turbo, (basicaly uses more) like a 2.2L or 2.4L but GM has their reasons

2.0 = 2.2 with lower compression cylinders & direct oil jets/stregthened rods.

i still think the 2.4 is the best tuner engine out of them for someone who is not going to remain close to stock at all, the 2.0 is better suited to the people that like to do just bolt ons and make easy power, if i was gonna dump thousands of dollars into any of the engines it would be the 2.4, wait im already gonna be dumping thousands of dollars into my 2.4 lol

Also shorter stroke, forged crank, and forged connecting rods.

Well it's not quite the build I was thinking it was, it is just the parts for the Grand Am Cup car.

98% of us on here use the Cobalt as a daily or weekend car in some cases. I don't think there's many of us trying to build a 6 second dragger. For all intensive purposes, a car that already has F/I will gain practical, daily usable power more easily and cost effectively than an N/A motor.

The build book is about a 2.2 and shows it using some 2.0 rods!!!

The 2.0 heads are different, rod's, pistons, cams, actually the only thing similar is the physical dimensions.

I think installing the LSJ SC,IC, and Intake on a 2.4 would be cool. LOTS of torque!!

GM uses a destroked 2.2 (2.0) in all their drag cars. The 2.0 is a 2.2 built for boost.
