Angry What Dealer Said About Terrible Black Paint

I am the guy that bought the SS sight unseen and had it delivered at a halfway point. I could not really see the paint till I got home and washed it...Story is in another post..Dealer was a real smart ass..I said I would like it replaced, he said THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, he basically said I have no choice but to take it to my local dealer and have them deal with it. Needless to say I am not going to do that because I doubt they will do a decent job of fixing all the issues. This is my last Chevrolet EVER. I had a dodge srt4 last year for a while, red in color and the paint was amazing. I think Chevy just simply does not care about the quality of there paint. It really sucks. Those of you looking to buy, make sure you examine your car top to bottom as from alot of posts these cars have huge paint issues.

Steve

P.S. Its amazing how much of a smart ass this dealer was, simply a *****.

How about a name, if they treated you bad it might help someone else down the road.

From your other thread I'm wondering if your problems aren't from how the dealer took care of your car while they had it, contact Chevrolet and expalin you problem.

BTW, How about some pics?

Never buying a Chevy again? Because of a flawed paint job? Thats a pretty strong statement, considering you did buy the car without even looking at it.

I have owned 2 Chevy's, my dad has owned too many to count, and my mom has owned 3 or 4. I have several friends who drive brand new Chevys. And not one has a flawed paint job. Your SS is a bad apple. A fluke. They dont happen that often, so I wouldnt hold it against Chevy.

Secondly, I really dont get the point of your post. All your doing is bitching about a problem. You provide no names, no pics, and your very defensive. AKA Nothing constructive, and really no info.

Reason for my rant

Dealer was WALLY MCCARTHY'S CHEVROLET-CADILLAC in Forrest Lake Minnesota, I guess I left off the part about asking the salesmen to physically walk around the car and look at the paint, he called me back and said the paint was absolutely flawless. I also failed to mention that two of the emblems for the car were half off when I met there drivers to pick up the car. I could not inspect the car when I picked it up because they drove through rain and mud so not much I could do, small town no local car wash. I also bought a cobalt LT to pull behind my motorhome and the black paint was flawless so maybe I did get a bad apple, I am just pissed the way the dealer is handling this, just pawning me off like it does not matter so yes I am defensive. I have bought many cars sight unseen because where I live I cant get Lexus, Audi, ect and my local Chevy dealer would not order the car for me and that I can't figure out so I was stuck looking on the net to find a dealer someplace. The dealer was 500 miles away and I couldnt drive all that way, that is why we met half way. I am sorry if you don't get my point, I feel the car should have a nice paint job, not to much to ask.

1) Like CobaltSSinMD said, take it to a small-town Chevy dealer. My parents got me my Cavalier from a small-town dealer and we had unbelievable service. Never treated us bad - EVER. When some dumb broad hit my car because she drove the wrong way up an alley and then tried to diagonal park in the other direction, they made sure it was fixed RIGHT even though they had to eat the cost for part of the paint job because the insurance company fought them on the price. They took the time to actually listen to me and look at the problem even if they didn't find anything. If they made a mistake they took care of it, gave me a loaner car, and took money off the next time I had service done. I bought my SS/SC from a big-city dealer and it is NOT the same. The salesmen were cocky and rude (and took stuff out of my car I traded in...I have yet to see my CD holder (empty, thank god) or my $30 cell phone charger). So where do I take the new car for service? You guessed it, back to the first dealership even though it's now an hour and a half drive for me.

Just explain to them "Look, I bought the car from XYZ Chevrolet because they had the model I wanted in stock. I pick it up from them, the guy doesn't even give me a chance to give the car a once-over to check for problems, it was dark and raining, when I looked at it the next morning I noticed all these problems with the paint. Your dealership is much closer, I'd like to talk to you and maybe bring the car in for you to look at. This isn't right, the other dealer will not help me out on this and it's too far to drive. I've heard that GM goes the extra mile to take care of their customers but I'm really doubting that after my experiences with XYZ, is there anything you can do for me?"

2) If nothing comes of that call GM's warranty department. Try and get a statement from them regarding the paint coverage in the warranty. "My car has this problem, it was my understanding that such defects are covered under the warranty, is that correct?" Make sure you get a name and/or employee number of the person you talk to so that you can come back with "Well Joe at the warranty department said this when I talked to him, you need to honor this warranty because he said it's covered."

Just go to local dealer and ask ... See what they will do... they may get pissy with you and tell you to go away... Then call GMs customer service line and talk to someone...

when my dad bought his z06 a couple years ago.. we went to pick it up and the paint was all swirled and even had a couple of rock chips in the front... only had 18 miles on it... The dealer didnt really say much.. seemed as though they were unsure of whether it was a warranty issue... So he called GM and they took care of it ... Called the dealer and got it setup to be repainted ! took a couple weeks to get it in etc etc ... but The paint still looks great to this day ! Try not to seem so frustrated when talking to the dealer ... seems as though they can get very defensive .. You catch more flys with honey....

It is frustrating, like I said, try the small town dealer. Usually that's where you get the best service. I am on a first name basis with the service manager and almost half of the mechanics that work there. Hell, I have the service manager's home phone number.

If it's any consolation, GM will be sending you a survey about your experience with the dealership where you purchased your vehicle - FILL IT OUT, they really do read those things and act on negative comments. Why do you think dealers are so pushy about giving them a positive review? Because NO ONE wants their regional rep in their dealership tearing them a new one because a customer is dissatisfied. They understand a car is a huge investment and if you feel taken advantage of, you WON'T be back and may go to another car company because you just spent a helluva lot of money and don't feel you got what you deserve for it.

Go to www.mygmlink.com and you should be able to access your warranty information and all of that online. Find anything and everything related to paint defects. Start contacting people now. As a matter of fact, you might try the first dealership again and mention that you'll be speaking with GM as well as the local Better Business Bureau about their unwillingness to stand behind their vehicle. Get in contact with a smaller dealer and get the ball rolling on the paint, then call GM and tell them about the problem give them the original dealer name and if the second dealer treats you right and takes care of the problem, be sure and tell them that.

Straight from the warranty book PDF on GM Owner's Center:

Paint, Trim, and Appearance Items
Defects in paint, trim, upholstery, or other appearance items are normally corrected during new vehicle preparation. If you find any paint or appearance concerns, advise your dealer as soon as possible. Your owner manual has instructions regarding the care of these items.

Also:

Chemical Paint Spotting
Some weather and atmospheric conditions can create a chemical fallout. Airborne pollutants can fall upon and adhere to painted surfaces on your vehicle. This
damage can take two forms: blotchy, ring-shaped discolorations, and/or small irregular dark spots etched into the paint surface. Although no defect in the factory applied paint causes this, Chevrolet will repair, at no charge to the owner, the painted surfaces of new vehicles damaged by this fallout condition within 12 months or 12,000 miles of
purchase, whichever comes first.

flyboy, I would definitely bring this up when dealing with the ****** at the first dealership:

Pre-Delivery Service
Defects in the mechanical, electrical, sheet metal, paint, trim, and other components of your vehicle may occur at the factory or while it is being transported to the dealer facility. Normally, any defects occurring during assembly are identified and corrected at the factory during the inspection process. In addition, dealers inspect each vehicle before delivery. They repair any uncorrected factory defects and any transit damage
detected before the vehicle is delivered to you. Any defects still present at the time the vehicle is delivered to you are covered by the warranty. If you find any defects, advise your dealer without delay. For further details concerning any repairs which the dealer
may have made prior to your taking delivery of your vehicle, ask your dealer.

Flyboy.

You have made several posts about this topic. You have 7 total posts and it's all about your paint. If you have a problem you need to work it out with GM and your dealer and not keep posting it here.
