What was it that happened to your engine again Jesse? I'm pretty sure I sold you my old 60's iirc.

Yeah I think I bought them from you. My front main seal turned into a crunchy leaf on the highway and all the oil leaked. Thought I fixed it but I also had a badly broken timing guide. Decided what the hell may as well swap heads of the engine is out again.

Got mine running last night... Turned off the post O2 diagnostics and enjoyed how quiet it is now except for the exhaust... It has a nice low tone to it with the headers and no cat's

I had the following modifications installed & just picked her back up from the shop yesterday. With all of the hours I'm working I didn't have time to do these installs so I took it to my tech this time.

Hey guys if you could please let me know what you think a fair price should have been for the work that I had done below. I feel like it should have been less than what I was charged but I would like to hear from you. I was only charged for labor since I had provided my tech with all of the parts. How many hours of labor do you feel that a normal shop would have charged for this work ? Also keep in mind with the PCM tune I had that done elsewhere however my tech pulled my PCM out & then plugged it back in.

2.9" clear pulley
Siemens 60 pound injectors EV1
LSJ injector harness EV1
Stage 2 belt
PCM update for 60 pound injectors
Yellow painted valve cover
New valve cover gasket
NGK Iridium spark plugs one step cooler
-New GM MAF sensor
New Injen hydro shield black

Also with the 2.9" SC pulley install I have the Zzp pulley kit so it was just a matter of my tech removing the Allen wrench bolts to swap pulleys no press needed

I'd guess 6-10h for the install of all that.

Thanks guys that makes me feel a lot better & reminds me why I have the tech that I have

He also told me the same thing that everything he did called for 6-8 hours however he only charged me a grand total of 4 hours in labor so at $80 an hour it ran me around $336 with tax!

One other question guys, I've never had an issue with my belt squealing. As you can see I had him replace my current GM stage 2 belt that was over 3 years old with a new GM stage 2 belt. I am getting a very slight squealing sound coming from my new belt however it only happens when I start it cold & it only last for no more than 30 seconds until the car starts to warm up & the RPMs drop then I can't hear it anymore. Again it's very faint but I can still hear it.

I've only had the car back for one day now & I heard it this morning when I started it cold before work & again just now when I started it cold after work. It's below freezing in Ohio right now.

Again never had that issue with my old belt. Also since my pulley just comes off with an Allen wrench there was no pressing of my pulley hub or anything so that couldn't be it.

Would the size of my pulley dropping from a 3.0 to a 2.9 have anything to do with it ? Is this something that may go away once the belt is broke in more ?

Go pick up some belt dressing and try that. It will make the belt a bit tacky and might help with startup. Otherwise it could be a pulley going out

Thanks E although last July so about 7-8 months ago when I replaced my entire timing chain including all of the sprockets & guides I also replaced nearly all of my pulleys, I installed a new GM tensioner pulley, a new idler pulley, a new alternator pulley, basically every pulley on my car is new with the exception on my AC pulley & my harmonic balancer pulley so I should be good in that department lol

I do have some belt dressing I just know you have to go super light with that stuff

The chirping on startup? My car has been doing that for the last three years. Probably the tensioner.

Chirping on start up was different. ZZP Tensioner stopped that.

I just installed a new timing chain kit & it came with the new 3rd generation timing chain tensioner bolt which of course was all shiny & new 6 months ago & as u can see it's already really rusted ??

where did you get the tensioner? Mine has never rusted. Definitely doesn't seem normal and almost looks like it is made out of standard steel with no coating or anything.

Hi JD I purchased it new back in July of last year which is the same time that I installed it. It came with my Cloyes timing chain kit that I got from Summit Racing. I did confirm that it is the 3rd generation bolt. It's only been on my car for 6-7 months. Pic of my order below

I just bought the Cloyes kit. Looks like I'm coating it with something before the engine goes back in.

My Kit is Cloyes too. I wonder if your driving environment is just that much more caustic. Or something could be not quite right with it and it. Though the exterior rust shouldn't harm it's performance.

Thanks for the feedback guys, your correct the exterior of the bolt wouldn't effect performance I'm just hoping that they are rusting like that on the inside as well!

I do live in Ohio where we get a good amount of ice & snow during the winter months & they salt the roads like crazy around here. My car is in my insulated garaged all year around & when the roads are bad I don't take her out however even on the good days there's still salt caked on the roads.

I keep her as clean as I can during the winter, I wash her every Friday all winter long then immediately park her in the garage for the weekend however I don't clean the engine bag during the winter maybe I should start.

I reached out to Summit & they did say that my Cloyes kit has a lifetime warranty & asked if I wanted to return it lol sure I'll just take all of my parts back out & return them for a rusted bolt lol
Of course they will not allow for me to just simply send the bolt back it has to be the entire kit.

I may pick up the tensioner bolt from ZZP or from GM directly & replace my Cloyes one with one of there's but I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble.

It's submerged in oil so that should never be an issue.

It's not submerged... It sits in the heads timing chain area. It does get spray and oil mist on it as well as an oil pressure feed.
