why do these read differently

mpg calculator....

i keep getting different results depending on which site i use... wtf..?

car holds
13 gal - 49 litres

my milage in town
280 miles - 450 kms

my milage on the highway
422 miles - 680 kms

This is what ive gotten/get todate

some calculators say i get:
21.5 mpg city
32.5 mpg highway

and others say:
27 mpg city
39 mpg highway

which one do i believe? i didnt think my milage was that good to 27mpg city, but the info i type in says that.

wtf?

Why not just divide.
280/13=~21.5
422/13=~32.5

Also I doubt you have purposely ran the vehicle to complete empty just for testing purposes.

The only reason I can think is that the second site has their conversion wrong somewhere because I know that simple math is correct.

well lets look at this logically. you are not getting 27mpg city.

like me and the other guy said, simply divide.

provided ALL the miles on one tank were city and all from another tank were highway anyway otherwise your answer will be somewhere inbetween

you are probably getting 21-32 like the bottom result

the 680 was the best ive done, thunder bay to winnipeg. never had to stop for fuel.
And 95% of that 450 kms will be city only.

and my numbers are normal for these cars? the 21/32

2.2 l61 NA

The site giving you higher MPG values is using Imperial Gallons, while the other is using US Gallons.

One US Gallon equals about 0.8 Imperial Gallons.

If you take your 27 city MPG and multiply it by 0.8, you get 21.6 city MPG.
If you take your 39 highway MPG and multiply it by 0.8, you get 31.2 MPG.
