2.0 LSJ Engine: Airbox modification
Air Box Mod Problem
I did the Air box mod in Feb of this year. Some mornings the car won't start all that well. No CEL. I tried injector cleaner and fuel sytem cleaner but that didn't do. Could that filter be clogged up already or is the filter not big enough because I can only run 10lb of boost. Let me know. Changing that filter is a pain the ****.

take it out ck the air filter and clean and lightly reoil if necessary and clean the maf while its out....
then reinstall if problem persists then like I said you have other issues...

I would say you have non air-filter related issues.
I took out my pep-boys cheap-o air filter (same kind used in the original mod) after 10,000 miles and it looked like it could easily go another 10,000 without having any problems.
I replaced it anyways b/c I had bought a new one just incase. But I'm pretty confident that these filters can handle 20,000 miles easily.
You didn't actually read the how-to (first pages of this thread) did you?

Like he said. The AEM fits perfectly like the stock one, but to leave the bottom cover off (for more airflow) you need a clamp for safety
Thanks for all the help so far ++rep
You have to use a clamp to hold the filter on. There's nothing else to hold it on with.
Any short cone filter with the correct opening size will fit as well as any others. The brand is up to you.
As far as reccomendations... I used the $25 Spectre (pep-boys) one and have had no problems.

Is there gonna be room to easily do that and does the filter come with a clamp that you can use? Can I do it without removing the airbox? Also, can a K&N filter fit as easily as the AEM (like the universal one mentioned a couple posts back)? Can anyone recommend me the best K&N filter?

You don't have to drill a hole for the clamp... but it's definately not easy.
Pull the headlight and bracket on that side and go ahead and remove the whole airbox... with the filter in place you should be able to get a small ratchet up there to tighten the screw on the clamp.

that's the filter i used, and the oil sucked right through the filter. screwed up my maf and covered the inside of the intake tube and throttle body. it was not a fun experience to fix and clean. for anyone else, i would recommend a dryflow filter.
Whats the point of an oiled filter? What does the oil help with?
I just did mine a couple days ago. i got an apc filter(3", 3.5", 4") with the oil in the bottle on the side of the filter. i just didnt put the oil on and its working just fine. i love it. j/w i have an 07. i simply unscrewed the bottom of the air box and put the filter in. i then drilled a whole on the top of the box so i could tighten the filter down and kept the bottom part of the airbox off. when i was doing it, i thought about something, not sure if anybody else has thought about it but couldnt you just keep the stock filter and screw a mesh grille in where the removable plastic piece to cover the bottom so that the filter doesnt fall out and your still pulling in good air?? it sounds stupid but just an idea, i was just wondering if anybody did this? damn i know you guys are going to flame me for this. lol
