2.0 LSJ Engine: Airbox modification
Does anyone know the difference between the Metal pipe and the Plastic pipe?
I'm thinking of going to the junk yard and forming my own pipe for the mod from a 240 sx pipe and a 300zx pipe that i found at the junk yard. both cars just got sent there my friend told me. both street racing.

k im feeling like a complete tool...i've called lordco (im in
here )...and i phone up 2 diff lordco's and im asking them for the AEM dryflow filter and they keep telling me there is none and that they only know of the K & N 3.25" filter ..someone help me out with a part number or something?..everytime i called i feel stupid its ilke how come all u guys in the states keep recommending the aem dryflow and i keep being told there no such thing (by the way i believe u guys more than i believe them so if i could get part number and just ask for it it would be awesome)

The only part that confuses me is drilling the hole for the clamp. Aren't you just clamping on the the intake pipe? Where do you drill the hole?

if you want to cut the box then you don't need to drill the hole.
However... I would strongly suggest NOT cutting the actual airbox. If you do get a problem or get water up in there and need to go back to stock you won't be able to.
If you leave the stock box in one piece all you'll need to do is replace the filter and screw the bottom back on.

I didn't cut my box nor did I drill a hole. I took a small socket with an extension and tightened the clamp that way.

Also, why is everyone taking out the box and putting on the filter that way. Personally, I think jacking up the car and taking the wheel off is easier. I've seen a couple people do it this way.

I did mine the exact same way , sounds even better than just having the bottom off . I bought a airbox from a member on here that bought a CAI . Just look for one, i paid like 30 bucks just for peace of mind / warranty 8)
I see, thanks for explaining... So what are most people doing with the airbox, just leaving the bottom piece off, and keeping the rest on? I am always very careful driving in the rain, but there is plenty of protection from the water as long as I don't go driving over puddles, etc. I have an 07.

The part number you gave no longer works. Neither AEM or Advance Auto lists it. I've been all around town hitting parts stores and they carry an AEM of a generic size. I want to order one with the same or very close to the same dimensions (as the stock filter), and still be able to clamp at the top.
The only K&N filters I can find that are closest to stock size:
E-0774
E-1009
E-0773
E-0777 (stock, no flange)

How about leaving the stock filter on and just cutting a portion of the box open on the side, while leaving the bottom intact? I've read this post and people have said a filter is a filter, so it would just be opening up the side to give a little more airflow, while leaving the bottom on for more splash protection. I wonder if the entire airfilter housing has to be intact to securly hold the stock filter? But I wouldnt think cutting a portion of the side wouldn effect the seal/filtering on the stock filter? So basically it would just give a little more power/ sound but not as much as leaving the bottom off, but it would be free? What do you guys think?
It's so incredibly easy... just be sure to disconnect the MAF and the wire "loom" from the airbox BEFORE trying to remove it from where it's bolted onto, or else it won't move very far at all.
(I thought it would have more slack in the wires, guess not!) Oh, and the sound is simply amazing. You can't help but floor it everywhere you go. 
And the stock filter IS more restrictive than the AEM dryflow. SO no, in this case a filter is not just a filter.
