2.0 LSJ Engine: Airbox modification
hey i need help finding a filter for my car just bought the car like a month ago and since there is no intakes for the 07 model i want to do the air mod i just really confused on what filter to buy and what sie since AEM is universal any help would be nice i would like to but the filter either today or tom. i want that wind so bad
How about leaving the stock filter on and just cutting a portion of the box open on the side, while leaving the bottom intact? I've read this post and people have said a filter is a filter, so it would just be opening up the side to give a little more airflow, while leaving the bottom on for more splash protection. I wonder if the entire airfilter housing has to be intact to securly hold the stock filter? But I wouldnt think cutting a portion of the side wouldn effect the seal/filtering on the stock filter? So basically it would just give a little more power/ sound but not as much as leaving the bottom off, but it would be free? What do you guys think?
My air box looks like the one at the top of this page , except it has the bottom left on . Ive used both the stock air filter and a K&N drop in this way and the stocker is alot quieter .
just installed the AEM Dryflow i bought...all i gotta say is...OMFG! its absolutely INSANE!!!!!! this mod is truely awesome
haha i was driving around after for like an hour just gassing it like crazy haha i can hear it when my music is pumped all the way up lol ...this mighta been a bad idea just b/c of how much im gonna wanna gas it now haha
*edit* and i left the air box on the car..i just took off the wheel well cover and took off the bottom of air box and slipped in the new one then drilled a hole to get at clamp on the filter

He is the one that came up with this in the first place... and I honestly believe it's the best mod out there for us.

Enjoy! Keep on Boostin!
I tested in similar conditions. Previous best in 90* heat and 80+% humidity: 14.82 @ 95.51 2.3 60'
Airbox mod and !spare tire in 87* heat and 86% humidity: 14.61 @ 97.61 2.27 60'
I'm actually surprised at the results. Best mod/$ I have ever made! I don't know I'll ever spend $200 on an aftermarket intake.

Great write up. I installed the AEM dryflow and decided to keep the bottom cover.I disconnected the battery cable and haven't gotten any codes yet.
With just the new filter, the supercharger is noticeably louder. Im sure once I get the S2 it will be quite a bit louder. Great mod and its worth doing for the sound and a little better throttle response even if you want to leave the bottom on for that extra water protection. Definitely worth the $40!

well, i tried to go through 33 pages and must have missed an important piece. what is the part number for the aem dryflow or the k&n? i have a 2nd airbox with hole drilled for clamp so i just need the part number. thanks in advance.
it's just a drop in filter that K&N makes, not sure about the AEM. Ckeck out your local parts store they usually have a performance catalog.
I bought a 3'' inside diameter AEM by mistake and it would not fit on the stock air box . The size you need is 3.25'' .
extra mod
you can also cut around the air box enough to keep wall mounts and you will have the filter fully exposed i think its better because the filter gets more air 147 @ 5000rpms in 4th was my in result. once i tried it your way (i did that first) i could only get 140 @ 6000rpms in 4th
