Dude, shut the hell up. Maybe he can't afford the SS/SC and the higher INS it demands.

As far as modding the airbox lift the lid and if you have a cone filter you can mod it. If its flat not then you will HAVE TO buy an aftermarket kit.

What i am saing is take that 300 for a cai and put it towards an sssc instead of waisting it and saying i really wish i could get the sssc. lol trust me i know how much insurance is mine is 400 a month car pay is 560 and i am only 19 and i have my own place and plenty of other bills. i wish more than anything i would have taken all the money i have spent on cars and car mods in the past because that cobalt would be paid for twice.

lol it always starts as an intake (300) then exhaust (700) then a system (1000) then rims and tires (1000+) **** by then he could just buy an sssc. I have been there with my 3000GT SL I spent 4000 on it, then put another 4 into it, and then i got my vr4

lol I didn't look into the cobalts enough before I bought mine, Otherwise I would have bought an ss for sure. I just have to live with my rushing to buy the first thing I see decision. I can say I am happy with my LS tho, haven't had a major problem, plus ss = more speeding tickets for me :-P

Good how-to tho, I did the one for the 2.2L and it works pretty good.

Ho....ly ****. I just did this. I don't even have my wheel on yet, but I wanted to start her up after disconnecting the battery for a little while just to hear what it sounds like. Honestly, I couldn't be happier with the sound for a $30 mod... I called my best friend and revved it for him and he was pretty excited about the sound over the phone too.

Great write up!

I'm also nineteen. I pay about $180 and $308 per month on insurance and car payment for my '06 SS/SC. You're getting ripped somewhere!

I just did the Air Box Mod now and it works GREAT. Its louder and the response time on the throttle is better. Runs smoother and picks up better than before.

I got a APC filter and it worked. =D

Except I had to cut the box itself...=/

but Its safely put in there and me and my dad both did it in under an hour.

Thanks for the write up. =D

Its louder too!!! =D

I also got an APC filter on there yesterday. Why did you have to cut the box? I just put a hole in it to fit a screwdriver in there...

honestly, it showed me more about my car that i didnt know and my dad explained a lot of things to me about the car (since he was a tech at a dealership) and well yeah i know we coulda done that but it didnt pass my mind at the moment. i mean it just means i have to drive more careful with my car when its raining. but there isn't many big puddles out here where i live so its nothing out the normal. it just means im going to be taking more care of my car now.

Number 1. It was a sarcastic joke.
Number 2. Water injection is used when you have a car that is getting to much boost and is making the cyl too hot.
Number 3. Why don't you ask your daddy about water injection he seems to be so helpful to your smart ass.
Number 4. You obviously aren't smart enough to figure out how to do a mod without his help even when you have step by step inst.
Number 5. Chris88z24 i love the boondock saints comment. Classic.

LOL, ok back on topic here..

My filter is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm really worried about water now (I have OCD when it comes to my cars), but I mean I would basically have to submerge the entire intake to suck up water right? I don't plan on driving into any lakes anytime soon, or puddles that are deep enough to submerge the intake. so I should be alright I hope. Water doesnt spray up under there from the road though, does it? I want to leave the bottom of the airbox off but now i'm having second thoughts. Like I said, I have automotive OCD

idk how it is with the 05/06
butttt what i DO know is with teh 07 cobyoby balts is that its protected in there with the splash guard and you have to have a hose made from the devil himself to get water up in that bitchness yo homie g unit east side west side...

translation....you can cut the entire box out if you'd like (its only more work) and still not have to worry...I think GM knew we were going to do this to our cars so they were one step ahead and added the splash guard. So the water that wants to get inside has to be some Cyber-Tronic Megatron H2O or some **** because it aint going in there =)

or you can remove half the splash guard like me and still never have problems

edit: errr just leave the part on around the wheel or else you may have problems im talking about the part directly under the filter... just dremel that part off.... louder whine from more air able to reach intake

yeah the only splash guard on mine is the one thats directly under the wheel...the guard that you have to peel back to reach the airbox. =)

i left that there becuase i know its secured in there and its held together. =)

Airbox mod successfully completed using the AEM dryflow filter. Fits like a champ. Took about an hour (includes going inside to get a drink, taking a ****, and of course taking my sweet ass time.) It was incredibly easy. The only hard part was the two bolts in back holding the box in was kind of a pain to reach, but nothing too bad. Also, the drilling of the hole is unescessary, I just used a socket to tighten the clamp (removed box from vehicle of course.) The s/c is a LOT louder now, and throttle response seems to be inproved as well. For 38 bucks shipped, this is a kick ass mod,and beats paying 250+ for a shiny pipe with a filter on the end that basically does the exact same thing as this mod.
