I pulled the tool in as hard as I could. Then used one hand and started spinning the filter in up and down while pulling to the right at the same time....finally after doing that it came off.

Note- I took the screw out the holds the filter onto the car.

I hope this makes sense...I'm writing this on my iPhone while at work.
I agree, it can be a pain to get off if the prongs are a little bent.

When I got my filter off the first time it was ok, but the second and third times I changed it the prongs were bent pretty good and it took a bit of muscle to get them off.

If you look under the car in the back and can see the fuel filter, then it is the same filter that all the other cobalts use.

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump in that case.

Yes, it is non servicable. You have to replace the entire fuel pump assembly which is a bit costly.

thanks for this tutorial! saved myself 80$ vs. the stealership...
Everything went smoothly except the first quick disconnect tool I bought wasn't manufactured well. The 3/8'' side on it didn't come close to fitting...

the fuel filter is behind the big black box hidden up a little bit. you need to get right under the vehicle to see it.

and the only cobalt that has an internal fuel filter is the TC so in your case yes it is part of the fuel pump

unless they changed them for 09 sports and lt's then they would still have a fuel filter. as far as i was aware they still had an external filter. the only one that changed was the TC and from my guess its because its DI and the filter is part of the fuel pump which is in the tank.

So the quick disconnect tool everyone used was 3/8" ? I plan on buying the metal one and not the plastic set.

For the record guys, my 2007 LS doesn't seem to have a fuel filter either. I searched around CSS.net, and it seems that quite a few of the 07s don't have them. I'm guessing there's a screen in the fuel pump.

So yeah...that guy wasn't the only one.

Yep! 3/8 is the right size....I should know since I ended up buying the wrong kit that had every size but 3/8

Haha what a toolbag.. They're all the same filter though, so it doesn't matter... All of them are the same unless its a newer Sport or SS/TC because in those years the filter was moved into the tank..

I have the Autozone Luberfiner filter on my 07' SS/SC and my GF's 08' LT.
