I found its actually easier to use a set of vice grips on the little nub. The wrenches always slide off. Have a friend help you!

Start off by taking a 15mm wrench and slowly depress the belt tensioner. You need to do this slowly to allow the small shock absorber to compress. If you go too fast or push too hard then the tiny piece of metal on the tensioner will round off.
NOTE: I later found out that it is actually easier to use a small pair of vice grips.

This is a good Mod. I like it. Its not a dramatic increase but it sound like your hitting 12psi around 7psi. It was worth the time. It does make the s/c sound like a different pitch tho.

bump from the dead... just a followup question.

how is every1 making out with their plugged sc holes? i plan on plugging em up when i get the stage kit from OTTP, so i can do it all in 1 shot. any problems? any1 have 'chunks of **** flying into their engine' as that redline alpha guy tried scaring us into believing?? i wouldn't think so, not if it's done right.

the only thing i forsee happening is over time the quicksteel getting brittle from the heat and falling apart... am i being intelligently overcautious, or paranoid?

this thread was inactive for some 4 months, not sure if it's because people just reference it for the how to, or 'cause no1 has been interested in it...

either way, i have this bookmarked into my 'future mods' favorites folder heh. looking forward to doing it, i just don't know how much i trust quiksteel to last the life of the supercharger. as the SC housing heats up, the holes can very liiightly expand I imagine, it is aluminum. whether or not those quiksteel plugs will hold under expansion and contraction, whether it be .0005" or not. that could cause undue stress on the glue's bond, perhaps fray and chip it enough to crack over time and... well, our LSJ's won't be happy.

please, some1 who did this post back and let me know how long you've done it for and if you have checked up on the holes. thanks

40kmi of hard ass driving and zero problems. If you bevel slots in the housing it is impossible for the plugs to fall out. I'm going to be taking off my SC soon for a port job and ill take more pics.

Wasn't there a post recently from the Eaton engineers who stated some kind of danger or loss of flow by doing this type of mod? Not trying to knock on the OP, just something I came across. Might be worth a search before going ahead with this mod if you haven't already...

you're probably thinking of this post:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lsj-performance-tech-47/eaton-superchargers-modification-guide-95307/

The two oval slots on the output plate are air leakage ports. Their only purpose is to decrease operational noise from the blower. Arnie, from Eaton Corp., explains their function like this, "When you stomp on the gas, the boost shoots up and the air flow goes supersonic. The air then slams back into the output plate and through the leakage slots, which reduces the hammering of the air into the housing causing less noise. The OEM can not have such loud NVH, that’s why we put them in the housing. The 2 small ports are not there to feed air, only to reduce noise." Basically, for the best flow and most efficiency, these ports can be blocked off, making the outlet port (triangle slot) the only port on the outlet plate of the housing. Closing these ports will not increase IAT's; however, it will make the supercharger much louder when in boost. As an example, aftermarket supercharger companies, such as Harrop, Roush and Magnuson do not use these slots in their blowers. It should be re-stated, that you should consult professionals regarding closing these ports; and do not, for any reason, plug them with JB Weld. Improper closure could eventually lead to pieces coming apart and loose debris destroying the rotors and housing. Opening up these ports will only have a negative effect on efficiency. Do not port them.

i'd love to plug these myself, no such thing as too much, or too loud of a whine. lol. but i'd personally like to use something more 'solid' than a putty of some sort. thats just me personally, not knocking anyone who's done this.

I plugged my silencer holes a couple months ago on my ported blower. Still holding strong. Sounds sick as hell. I love it.

Nothin beats blower whine @ 3krpm, showing "0" on the boost gauge, having windows up, 3" exhaust, and still hearing it I'm sure the intake, 2.6 pulley, and invader CF hood help too. Let's more whine out

Holding up fine. I put about 15k on in a year since I did this mod.

The OP got the idea from me, and texted me throughout the whole process. Yes Paul, I remember. haha. You did this in a hotel parking lot right? lol

Has anyone heard of or tried devcon aluminum epoxy? I've seen that **** used on cylinder heads. Thinking about trying it.

why not just stick to the proven quiksteel? I'd rather not experiment with this type of mod

this is something i will look into. though i must say, quiksteel is some pretty powerful stuff. i have used it in everything from filling holes to patching hot water lines on my friend's cabin upstate so we can shower lol, to filling in my 3rd transmission mount. i just, i dunno... no1 has had problems but i want to be 101% sure and completely confident it will last.

glad that this thread is seeing more action again, it is a wonderful idea. stupid NVH trying to hold us down with less whine... grr.

in a month or so when i get the OTTP stage 1 kit, i'll do this while I have the SC off. what i plan to do is nevel the top a bit, and then make a bunch of indentations as well, then bevel the bottom. then it will have several spots where it is wavy and conforms to the hole's walls to keep it in even better. i am gettin gless and less nervous about it when i try to think of the best way to keep the stuff in there.

no doubt it will last, i just looked at a heater core my father fixed in the basebords in the basement, that stuff is still solid and i couldn't scratch it with my nail.

looking forward to doing this very badly, but i don't wanna take the SC off until i do the stage kit, might as well do it in 1 shot. i will post up a before and after vid for sure... stay tuned heh

edit: nevel = bevel

and gless = less, lol

Yup! Holiday Inn in Kingston. I bet the S/C oil stain is still in the carpet lol. Thanks Chris!

Quicksteel is only like $5 a tube. It might be unwise to use something that hasnt been proven to work. Even if the Devcon was 2.50 it wouldnt be worth it.

I might be helping a buddy of mine do his soon. I'll take some better pics of the area to bevel. I realized that there should have been more pics. Some steps got kinda vague.

And by buddy I mean hawkeyez. Come on IM BORED.

let ^^^ do your SC! i want some piccccs. as for the holes, i wanna do something like this when i prep the holes for the quiksteel:

i think if i beveled the top and bottom, and put a few deep impressions in all around the circumference of the hole, like the pic shows, it'll stay like a champ. can't wait for the stage kit so i can do this!!!

oh and... MSPAINT FTW lmao
