Appearance: Make a shorty antenna
Why pay $20 for an antenna when you can cut yours down to size?
1:Remove antenna from car.
2:Wrap antenna with electricle tape just below were you want to cut.(This helps keep the small wire attached)
3:Cut antenna flush with top of tape with a cut off wheel. A hacksaw should also work.
4:Use 1/8" rubber vacuum cap ($1.49 for 5 at AutoZone) as a tip. Twist cap as you push it on antenna. (this will push the tape down)
5:Remove tape.
6:Reinstall.
7:ENJOY your shorty.

great write-up, its easy and it works just as well as the normal length (at least in Indy). i still need to buy a cap for the end, right now i just made my own using electrical tape haha it actually doesnt look bad at all
Did mine the same way as OP, the wire wrap came off so I just sprayed it with black paint. Reception got worse without the wire and shorter antenna but I don't really listen to the radio.
Just a thought: Wouldn't it be a good idea to cut the wire wrap first with a pair of wire cutters just to be sure it doesn't come undone? I'm in the Phoenix Metro area of Az and I'm sure I wouldn't have any reception probs. The first thing I thought when I got my car was "Man that antenna is UG-LY!"
