Code PO010

I just bought a 2008 Cobalt Sport and it has this code that appears twice. PO010 which is a cam code. I replaced the cam sensor at the advice of my mechanic. The code went out for a few minutes but back again twice. Thinking maybe the crank sensor next but thought I would ask if anyone else has any ideas so I don't waste money changing parts that wont help. Thanks for any thoughts.

So you changed the solenoid right? The ones on top of the valve cover.

Replace the solenoids on top of the engine, in the middle of the valve cover. Change both of them, if one is failing the other is usually close behind.

Dorman makes nice aftermarket ones now, or you can get OEM ones. They aren't terribly expensive and only have one bolt holding them in, just pop them out.

Often on older cars they are stuck in there pretty well, I find taking a larger prybar and using it to catch them under the lip on the plug and lift the solenoid out works really well. Oil the o-ring on the new one before you install, and make sure the area is clean before you remove them (crap tends to settle in there, blow it out with compressed air before removing) and before you install the new ones.

Also, does the engine have good fresh oil in and and the proper amount? Those solenoids are using oil to actuate the cams, sometimes if the oil is very poor or low it can cause issues. Will set a different code than what you have though.

Thanks Very Much

Hey everyone sorry it took so long to get back but the solenoids were on order. Changed them both and it worked. Code is gone so just want to thank you all. You rock.
