I went up for the festival of speed which is sort of like test and tune. I ended up spending around $50 bucks but got to run on the road course and made a half dozen runs on the Auto course. They have all kinds of events so the prices will vary. The class is around $180 for 5 hours. They also have a nice cart track and club up there.

You can for auto X but for the road course which is pretty demanding I pretty sure you need the course. They teach you all the rules ,flags, lights, etc. Plus they take you on the course to get you used to it with an instructor.

I used to auto-x but I moved on to road racing a few years ago.

They usually open the track in late March for a few limited events, things really get rolling in late April/early May. Normal track days are $180

That's a little misleading. You don't get 5 hours of instruction. You get about an hour of classroom instruction and an hour and a half of time on the course and it's $180. Their true racing school is a bit more intense and you can get a competition license, but it usually runs closer to $400+.

If they did that, I would never go back there again. You have to run there for quite a while with an instructor and get signed off before you can run solo. It took me 4 years and a dozen or more "class" days before I was signed off, but I still opt to run with an instructor. Their instructors are very experienced people and I've never gone out and NOT learned something extremely useful from them. Also, unless you become an instructor there are no passengers allowed.

They run about 25 cars per group, one group at a time under controlled passing rules. There are only two passing zones and you must be pointed by by the other driver. Sessions are broken down into 4 groups - novice, intermediate, advanced (they have their own track days since they don't need instructors), and instructors.

Depending on where you live and how far you're willing to drive, there's also Nelson Ledges in Ohio that you can run at. Might want to try that track out as well, rumor has it BeaveRun may not be a public course for very much longer.

The Auto X is probably the easiest to run if you just want to have some fun. They set the course up so your in 2nd gear most of the time. Its a hoot.

Yeah, auto-x is a good starter platform. They have SCCA auto-x and then BeaveRun has their own "informal" atuo-x that they run I think on Thursday evenings.

North Hills usually starts earlier than SCR, just because they use the North Park pool parking lot, so they run April and May, then they're generally off until September, whereas SCR runs all summer long.

I'm always down for hanging out or wrenching. Cobalt owners just tend to be flakey as a whole I have seen when it comes to car meets, heh.

Also, Jeff, finally got my intake manifold on. Debating if I want to stay with my 2.2 TB or find a 2.4. Once I figure that out, I'll be getting the money together for you to tune me.
