[QUOTE=drewbroo;6412048]I forgot you had a Canon. IS is a good thing but not a must. IS helps keep shake under control, but it is completely pointless if you are shooting short with fast glass on a tripod. The only thing that is a must is a built in motor if your camera doesn't have one to maintain AF function.
ya it has auto focus i think.
here are some shots i took but in auto mode..

ok got a question looking to buy a camera. wanted to know some opinions of some ppl. im looking to spend nothing more than $300 but i also want it to be able to take nice pictures if you could recommend something that would be great thanks in advance to anyone who helps!
Is adaptability or future proofing a consideration?
lol i have no idea what that means. im looking for something to take great quailty photos of my car plus at car shows. needs to be good in bright light, and in darkness. something i wont have to upgrade in like 1 year.
For 300.00 your won't be finding a DSLR that will do that. The only camera I have been happy with in both Bright light (You need a fast shutter for that) and darkness is my D700, and just the body alone is 9 times more than you want to spend. You could look for an entry level point and shoot, but I don't think you will get the results you are expecting. Look for a used Canon powershot G12 or Panasonic Lumix DMC-5. That may still be over 300.00. Also on smaller cameras the sensors are too small to give you any real decent low light performance.

Having low light ability is not only an ability of the camera but also one of the lens attached. To get both good bright and low light ability you need a quality lens which is going to be a separate purchase to consider. With your price limitation you are severely limited but if 400 was the limit you at least have one decent option though many are going to disagree (because it isn't a Nikon or Canon). The first link is to the camera. The second is to a gallery with that exact camera and lens combo none of the images are mine I just did a search.

Here you go, compared to the first 4 suggestions submitted. You can see how well they hold up against each other. The Oly, Panny and Nikon 3100 are pretty much dead even each time, the only one that is different is the d700 but like it was said earlier that thing is WAY more expensive. The Panny and Oly seem to beat the other two at the most used sensitivity ranges 200-800. With a quality low light lens in the future you would have everything you want.
