Car jerking
rukkee has it bang on. gear lash and soft mounts, mine has done it since day one.
btw, the initial cause of the issue isnt your driving. but if you continue to do it, when
its quite easily avoidable with an adjustment to technique, then the problem does become your driving.
its very easy to drive these cars without experiencing that bucking.

You have to learn to slip the clutch properly and adjust your throttle pressure quickly, no dicking around, when it starts to jerk you will learn a combo of slipping the clutch and feathering the throttle that will save you a lot of embarrassment!
WE HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED THIS I AM SURE OF IT.
The Cobalt is actually MUCH smoother north of 3500 then it is below...
Wow someone with my same problem! Don't you love when people tell you to learn how to drive! My car did not do this until last year all the sudden one day. Only difference is when in any gear, but felt more in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th when I suddenly take my foot off the gas the whole car JERKS\JOLTS! Sometimes if I VERY SLOWLY take my foot off the gas it won't do it. I thought engine\trans mount, but all are good.
You never want to be abrupt on the gas, instead always clutch in.... that's pretty elementary I thought..
You don't want to lash the drivetrain, so disengage it!

Yes if you take your foot off the gas in the lower gears I know what your talking about I've driven many manual cars. Your not understanding the fact that A. Owned the car 2 years before this started to happen B. 5 different Cobalt SS owners drove my car to verify the problem and all of them verified the problem. As a matter of fact I think 3 are now members. As you said above "The Cobalt is actually MUCH smoother north of 3500," its not on my car anymore. Take my foot off the gas at 3500 in 3rd, 4th, and 5th and I get 1 sudden jolt and the car kind nose drives and seems to decel a little too much which I think might just be a fueling issue.
Naw ..... his problem is different than the run of the mill driving issue . He isn't a noob to the SS , and it wouldn't just appear after 2+ years of driving it.
East ... i think your on the right track with the bypass and solenoid

Jerking at slow idle speeds
DRIVE TRAIN CLUTCH SLOP this is a common problem ?My 2005 cobalt SS does this also at low speeds the car jerks. and the idle fluctuates I think it's a clutch spring issue. In the flat and going down a slight grade at idle the car will jerk and the idle will fluctuate. Turn it around and go up a slight grade it does not do it. I think and I talked to some performance techs and that's what their take was. Try and go up a slight grade and see what happens? The springs in the center of the clutch are loading up and releasing in the flat and down a slight slop. But turn it around there's a different load on the clutch . Try it and see what happens
