CEL when cold

CEL when cold

Whenever its cold outside i get a CEL...like 2 days ago it wasl ike 60 outside and i had a CEL .....then it just went away the next day....anyone else notice this? i have an 07 Cobalt LT....my buddy said sumthing about a bad gas cap...said the cold weather makes it malfunction and throw a code...any ideas?

if you think 60 degrees is cold try waking up in nh the last 3 days ive woken up and its been 38-40 degrees today i believe was 34, and were not even in winter yet. were do you live were u think 60 degrees is cold, cuz 60 degrees in nh were out in shirts and t-shirts haha but to answere ur question no ive never got a cel because of cold weather this is my first year with the ss/sc and will be my first winter btu the last couple mornings i havent had a thing

How many miles are on your car? Sounds like you have an open loop emmissions problem. Also if you could get the code read it would help alot.

an emissions code would not go away so easily, not till the leak was fixed. First thing I think of is an o2 sensor heater malfunction, under a certain temp the o2 sensor has a heating element that will make it warm up faster then just allowing the exhaust heat to warm it up so that you don't run in a warm up cycle for so long. Your o2 sesnor heating element may be bad an triggering a code cause it does not recognize or see that the element is working. Just take it to the shop since it's still under warranty and it should have a history code even if the light is not on.

lol late reply but i had it scanned....got a running lean code....car has 10k on it....but the light goes away when it gets above like 50....ive been just kinda ignoring it so far but im probly gonna take it in soon and see what they can do for me
