Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one going to severe stress issues with the SS/SC. I've taken it to the dealer (under warranty) over 14 times. The dealers around here are absolute idiots. Anyway, in the cold, front front end makes a horrible noise. I can't even describe what it is. The hubby and I looked under the car and tried to find out, but no luck. Also, this has happened to me twice, the car has completely shut off while driving. And this is going down the interstate. Do you know how scary it is to be driving to work @ like 90mph and the power steering shuts off?? Dealer never fixed. Hasn't happened in two years, though. Also, I've tried starting the car, and nothing happens. I try about 1 or 20 times and then it will finally crank... but won't idle over 500rpm. It takes about 20 minutes to warm up and then it's idling high enough to put into first and go.
I love the car now that there are no "mechanical" malfunctions. Chevy never fixed any issues; my prayers worked well enough to fix them! It's such a headache to have the first model of a new car. Not all the bugs are ever worked out until the 3rd model year of a car. Hence why I am NOT getting a brand new Camaro. Besides, my '92 runs just as smooth as a new car.

Sorry for the rambling... but and idle mind at work + 200 wpm = lots of forum posts, lol.

-sunroof busted
-shifter cap fell off
-vent fan control broke 2x(could not turn the fan off) was told some wires were shorted in the harness. I believe em since I found some scorched chunks they didn't pick up by the pedals when they finally fixed it.
-passenger side window motor slooooooow
-passenger side door hits the frame and chips the paint alot. (bottom back edge on the exterior)
-both doors not alligned properly...hitting the latch frame before actually latching closed. (easy fix: shim the hinges. I shimmed the bottom hinge on driver side and both hinges on passenger side.) Now they close with that perfect bimer "thud"

You are very lucky to have a good 06 with no problems.

My 06 is a POS , What a disgrace this car is to the Chevy name.
Never again would I buy another one of these problematic cars .
Gee, my 07 has been an excellent car.
my 2005 is still going with 89,000 miles on it... the girl and her family have had NO issues with the car.
My neighbor has an 06 Cobalt that he drives 2 hours to work... 77,000 miles and the only time that sees the dealership is for an oil change...

After 9 Cavaliers and 2 Cobalts, 2 Luminas, 1 Monte Carlo, 1 G6 and 1 Silverado... I plan on buying GM as long as they're still in business.

Problem list!

Time to empty the problem bag!
My car is 2005 with 69700 km on the odo.
Never seen the winter and works 5-6 months a year.
  • Paint is getting off the doors and goes onto the seals instead, even when coated with silicon lubricant.
  • Anything painted silver paint peels off, easily.
  • Sunroof button sometime won't react correctly, have to press it completely to get it to only raise.
  • Sunroof squeaks and makes wind noise at speed >= 140 km/h.
  • Break squeaks on reverse when wet.
  • Suspension squeals when temperature <0°C.
  • Weird mysterious noise when temperature is too hot in the car and rolling in a bump near the trunk. (Especially in Québec since our roads are always patched, never renewed, and even worse, when renewed, never will they remove the old pavement before applying a new layer )
  • Happened once to me that the car shutted off randomly, no idle problem on mine though.
  • Random status lights turning on and off on the dashboard, either high beam (20% of the time), hand break (80%) or once the fog light, never associated the light with any event, no DTC or anything, just lights on then off after 3 seconds and won't affect anything in the car, really weird.
  • Shift knob popping of in the air is common, happened at least 10x and once while not in the car (huh?!);
    - I just put it back on and wait for the next time (1-2 month).
  • Shift knob diagram fell off 2x;
    - Dealer glued it back on with urethane, came back in my hand 2 months later.
    - Glued it back on with cyanoacrylate (aka super instant glue), still Okay.
  • 2007: The intercooler radiator line where you refill, there's a bracket, it broke;
    - Made a new bracket of the same format, kept the part with the bolts of the older bracket, drilled holes in the new bracket, bolted it back on after spraying it with black in-rust-able paint, all good.
  • 2009: The flexible part of the exhaust (which is, by the way, welded on the catalytic converter), ruptured near the motor end, so now you can imagine the noise;
    - Just checked with the dealership to see if it's warrantied, they seem to be unsure and are still verifying, luckily I'm the second in the same month who happen to have this problem. If they warrant it, they have to change the cat... who was stupid enough to weld something so easily breakable to the cat anyway.

Well, I feel lighter now

Been through it all...

Alright gents here is my list... Ridiculous yet warranty saved my ass! Warranty over now knock on wood:

1) Power Steering Failure (Recalled)
2) Engine tickin followed by Engine Failure - Turns out the $100 an hour boys didnt thread the head properly at factory which meant my spark plug popped out on its own on the highway one day... ITs fun losing all power when you are going 120 KM in the left lane.
3) Door paint coming off
4) Shifter plastic piece fell out
5) Header misaligned, replaced
6) Catalytic Converter junk, recalled
7) Leather too short on the door panel, beauty ring installed
8) Front Struts and assembly garbage, replaced under warranty
9) Tire paint chipping, repainted, chipping, repainted, warranty done, chipping
10) Squeaking in the back panel somewhere
11) Squeaking in the front deck somwhere
12) Reverse is a procedure to ensure no grinding
13) Driver's side seat has fluff coming out the back all the time
14) Door handles on both sides seized... Warranty
15) Passenger window slow
16) Interior fan blew out... Warranty

and some other miscellaneous items... Yet I still love this car!

And now I am hearing a weird sound from the front of the car. The only way to describe it is "Sloppy". I thought it was the supercharger but no. Then I checked tranny... seems okay. My friend listened for one minute and said it sounds like my lifters... I hope not.

Cheers boys,

D

Front struts and strut assembly... Just start with the struts and you will find your way around,

Cheers,

It's probably already been mentioned
but
  1. Brakes.
  2. Dirty throttle bodies.
  3. Power Steering.
  4. Catylitic Converters.
  5. PCMs rubbing / interfearinc with K&N Intakes (and some others)
  6. Clutches
  7. Wheel Hop
Thats all I can think of for now.

It could mean a number of things....your PCM could've lost communication due to a bad fuse or weak battery or bad altenator. I got that message in my truck for a while (2007 Silverado LTZ) and finally it got so bad the PCM would reboot going down the road. Turned out to be a bad fuse. Tech called it a superfuse.

Did you tune it recently or did it happen while still? After you stopped and ran it again did it come back?

If it doesn't come back I wouldn't worry about it, but if it does get it looked at. It may take a bit to figure it out, mine didn't even really throw a DTC code off of it. I think I had a generic tranny code for the tranny control module which didn't say anything conclusive....

Good luck.

Thank you....how difficult is it to get that fixed under warranty, and how safe am I driving it till I fix it?

Front suspension clunks probably control arm/ bushing. I live in city and from potholes have gone through at least 4. If under warranty should replace for you. If it the bushing they replace the whole arm too, less labor. This is my biggset complaint. Any one try FE5 arms on an LS. wondering if they are any stronger. 2 of the times wasnt even going 20 on my side street. And would also have to say fit and finish. with new stereo cars plasti-crap interior rattles to hell.

Ok guys got some new info on clunking in front. had my car in at dealer this weekend to check it out. Had car up for 2 hours couldnt find anything wrong. everything tight nothing broken, struts not leaking, aligned properly. so they put up a stock one next to mine. turns out when lowered(im on sportlines, stock struts) even with spacers angle of control arm is slightly off. causes the edge of FE1 stamped steel control arm to slightly tap on i believe sub-frame. this is only over bumps/hard turns and said shouldnt be a problem(turn up stereo). I am wondering if FE5 arms would help this?

Good info...my suspension is stock save for Strut Tower Bar and Rear sway bar yet I have clunk going on. Just an F.Y.I.

Not sure if upgrading the arms would help your situation, perhaps if you upgrade the struts to the FE5 TC or SC?...just a thought.

Same thing exactly with mine but...
Shifter boot is half grey suede now lol
Rough idle for first 5 minutes of start up
Power fluctuates after start up and driving
Hood paint is chipped to hell
Driver door exterior handle paint chipped off on the inside part???
Interior handles are chipped and the cloth parts on the door were f**ked in 6 months
Lack of options on the base model. Seriously? Power windows aren't an option
Oil drain bolt acts likes my ex fiance when I want to get it off hehehehe

5. RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE
6. poor quality axel, strut, sway bar

the moonroof button really annoys me, i went to open my moon roof and the button just went straight up. the moonroof opened a little so then i sat there fiddling with it to find the button and close the roof.

Oh my! There is soo many!

1. Sunroof switch
2. Shifter knob
3. Tires
4. Brakes
5. Silver finish on inside door handles peeling
6. Paint all over car is chipped, mostly the hood
7. Finish on rims bubbled after car wash
8. Wing not assembled properly
9. Condensation in headlights (seal went bad)

I have repaired most things, sunroof switch and shifter were covered by warranty. Brakes and tires were purchased out of pocket (seperately) and not cheap I might add. Headlights are not covered under warranty. Dealer wanted to charge me $295 each to replace them, cannot repair seal. They still work, not repaired.

And, most recently, for over a year I have been hearing a metal, tinny rubbing or rattling noise from rear. Usually during acceleration from low speeds. Have been to the dealership numerous times with same complaint. It had been repaired once, but had returned a couple of days later. Was told that time that the rear heat shield had shifted causing the noise. I brought it to the dealer today for oil change and they supposedly resecured it via making a new hole with a new bolt. Was there most of the day, just to hear the noise on my way home. It is not as loud, but still there. I didn't want to return the car, because I had been there the majority of the day. I really would like feedback on this if anyone can help me either figure out what it is and/or how to have it repaired. This noise is really annoying and I am quite frustrated. Thanks in advance.

Rattle noise in the steering column.
Continental tires that come stock go bald as soon as you drive off the showroom lot.
Brake pads they put on must be half the thickness as they last half the life of normal pads.
Power steering was programmed too low in output, had to be reprogrammed/ reflashed.
Had the fuel system recall which makes the car now run rough with 87 octane.
The alignment was done at 15k miles, ludicrous.
The alignment was done again at 38k miles, unreal.
Weird pop sound in the back end when car goes around corner especially an upgrade.
Already had to have a tranny flush! Whats up with that? They said it would be at 100k...

I do not drive around corners fast, and I am the guy going 1/2 a MPH over speed bumps.
Alignments going out this many times, power steering, steering column, crap tires, premature wear on the brakes and such is
