You need to use a tech2, Usually only a dealer has one. The remotes going out is a know problem with the cobalts. The buttons have slowly stopped working on mine. I had to pull the horn fuse cause my remote was broke and the alarm wouldnt shut off.

I just went to the dealership.
He had to use a Tech II thing and plug into the OBDII port.
I think it was arround 10 bux or so for it to be programed.
Way less then the cost of the key FOB itself.

this is what one of my cousins told me to do and see if it works

get in your vehicle and shut all the doors. Put your key in the ignition switch and hold down the "Unlock" button on your door panel.

Examine your ignition area closely. There are key settings besides cranking the engine: "off," "on" and "acc." Quickly toggle the key between "off" and "on" twice with the door unlock button held down.

Release the "unlock" button and listen for the doors to lock and unlock. This signals you are in programming mode.

Hold down the "lock" and "unlock" button on the keyless remote to program it to the vehicle. Wait for the doors to lock and unlock again to signal that the programming is complete.

Repeat the procedure to program a total of four remotes to your GM vehicle.

This sounds like what I did with my wifes 2005 Envoy last year. It took a couple of tries but once I followed the instructions EXACTLY it worked. Not sure if it will work on a Balt or not but I would imagine most GM's would be similar.

That only works for 2005 and older vehicles, won't work on Cobalts...

What's wrong with your fob? The buttons were all worn out on mine, so I just bought a new one off ebay and swapped the controller boards.
