P0420 Code

Installed a Injen CAI and 2.5" ZZP Catless down pipe on my LE5 2.4l over the weekend. I am now getting code P0420 which I assume is from removing the cat. I am planning on getting a tune here in a couple weeks and am assuming I will need to delete the rear o2 sensor. I guess my question is will it cause problems running with that code for a couple weeks until the tune? Or is there another fix for this code?

Thanks,

Matt

Delete te code when you get it tuned, otherwise just ignore it

Yes it is an annoying little light! Was talking to the tuning shop and apparently they freak out about the CEL's and said they wouldnt touch the car with it on there. I guess just tell them all it needs is a rear o2 sensor delete?

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!

Or just take it somewhere like autozone and have them scan and clear the codes

Took it to autozone and they couldnt read my ecu. That was odd. So I took it to a tuning shop and they had no problems, cleared the code, and came back within 10 miles :/

Clearing the code won't make it go away. The code itself needs to be deleted via HPTuners. Its nothing to be worried about. The only harm it will do is if you get emissions run on your car. It will fail obviously. However I don't think you care about emissions since you went catless lol

spark plug non fouler trick. i had to add a 90 degree elbow to mine in addition to the non fouler trick to prevent the code from returning. you can clear the code simply by unplugging the battery.

Hey, at least I read quite a few threads about it to find out what it was and what causes it. Just wanted to make sure it was fine running for a few weeks with that code!

Haha the guy that checked the code laughed his ass off when it came up, obvious pothead (nothing against that) but he was envious that I had a 420 code. haha

You went to a tuning shop that was afraid to work on a car with a p0420 code? I would have left. A real "tuning" shop should be used to working on cars without cats.

Nah I called and was asking about how much a tune would be before I had verified the p0420, told them it was most likely a p0420 and they said they wouldn't touch the car until it was taken care of or checked out further. Which I think would be normal.

Oh ok if they didn't know what code it was beforehand that's understandable. They don't wanna deal with somebody else's broken car, people sometimes go to tuning shops to get work done then blame preexisting conditions on the tuner.
