Paint Problems

Well I recently just bought a 2007 Cobalt, and Im already having paint issues. I only have 3400 miles on the car and have owned it a month, and the clearcoat is bubbling away from the base coat. I was wondering if this is a know problem, or if its maybe specific to my color (Black). Im gonna be taking it in to Woodfield Chevy in Schaumburg IL hopefully tomorrow, but definatly sometime this week. Ill let everyone know what they say and how Im treadted with my 1st (and hopefully only) warranty issue. Ill also try and get some pics up of what Im talking about, because its a lil hard to explain. It basicly looks like waterspots, but if you rub it you can tell its under the clear.

Thanks for any info you may have,
Sean

Ok I went to the dealer yesterday, and now I have an appointment for tommorow. They say they are just gonna buff it out. I tried to explain to them that its not ON the paint its UNDER the clear. The best way to describe it since you cant look at my car is like an air bubble between the clear and the base. You cant feel and defined edge (like you would on something you could buff out) They claim it to be acid rain but whatever, they can buff it till they figure out that it cant be buffed out. I really dont care what they do to fix it, as long as its fixed.

I tried to take pics with my girlfriends point and shoot camera, and it didnt work well. Im getting my DSLR back today (I let a friend borrow it) so I can take some pics before it goes in.

P.S. If acid rain did that much damage in the 1 month Ive had the car, I wont have a car in a year

I had a similar problem on a different car (cough ford pos mustang cough) they tried to buff it, then tried to repaint it, then said the hood had cracked gel coat, then replaced hood, painted again, when it was done the paint was awesome, just didn't match the rest of the f"ing car anymore, and when I traded it later I got hit for, get this "excessive paint work" like it was some sort of wreak!!!

They can either paint the whole car, or get you another car, a defect is a defect why should the paint be any different, it is bumper to bumper warranty. I cant help it that the paint is the only thing that actually goes from bumper to bumper!

If you have to, go to another dealer, then regional service manager, then call GM customer direct.

Well its all over the bumpers, hood, roof, trunk, more or less the whole car. So if they have to paint (which Im SURE they will) it will be the whole car. I have friends in the auto body industry that I can take it to and trust to do a bangin job the first time (and make sure to do the entire car not just the problem areas) Well see how it goes today.

Ok well, I droped it off this morning at 8am, and they called me at about 1 and said.
"Well its all ready, all we had to was "wash" it (read put hella swirl marks in it) and that took care of it"
So I go in there, and there is still spots, not as bad as before, but spots none the less. I had something I had to go and do real quick (cause I knew they would take my car again) so I got in it to leave and saw a coffe cup in the car, all my mirrors adjusted, my vents adjusted, and 2 miles on the car. I broght it back in after I ran a quick errand, and he told me it was tree sap, to which I replied I have never parked NEAR a tree. He tells me you dont have to its airborne. So then I was like well someone left a coffe cup in my car, his response was "Oh it must have been one of the detailers" (you know the ones working on the PAINT on my car) So I siad I dont care whos it is, I dont want anybody drinking in MY ******* car, that just got a funny look. So they have it again, well see what happens when I go back for a second time. The one thing I dont get is, if I broght it in for spotting on my trunk, why would they leave ANY spots?
Also his reasoning for the 2 miles was that the detail shop is at Hummer, about a block away (there is a dealer between chevy and hummer). I should have bought a honda

take a look at your owners manual. I think there should be some stuff about paint warrenty in there. But there are a lot of stipulations about what is covered and what is not.
Some dealerships who want to be asses will only cover rust damage as most everything else is due to the elements (rain, snow, rock chips) and therefore they wont cover..but occasionally you will find a dealership who will fudge some paperwork and get stuff touched up and repainted for you.

I'm glad it all worked out in the end. Talk about BS man. I have to deal with BS dealers too. I'm missing two screws that keep some tank thing from moving around. He told me since I installed the Stage II I need to prove that they were not there before I did the install. Stage II has nothing to do with that part on the ******* car. Morons!

Glad you worked things out. I would have definitely raised hell about the coffee cup.
